Wuling District Court (located in Changde City, Hunan Province) held show trial on June 11th, 2010, against the following Falun Gong practitioners: Ms. Wang Xiaohui (45 years old), Mr. Li Haijun (42), Ms. Liu Huiping (45), Ms. Zeng Lihua (46), Ms. Liu Xianju (46), and others. When the defence attorney declared that the practitioners were innocent, the judges appeared very nervous.
Ms. Wang Xiaohui said during the hearing "I have not done anything unlawful." Her defence attorney pointed out that there is no legal justification for the courts in China to sentence Falun Gong practitioners based on Article 300 of the criminal law: "crimes of sabotaging the implementation of the state's laws and executive regulations by utilising an illegal religious organisation." Accusations concocted by the former Chinese Communist Party (CCP) head and the CCP-controlled media could not be considered law. When the prosecutor presented items confiscated from practitioners as evidence (Falun Gong fliers, laptops, mobile phones, etc.), the defence attorney said, "According to our legal system, one cannot be charged with committing a crime solely based on these materials."
The judges were visibly stunned and in a panic. After that, whenever practitioners mentioned Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, the judges would immediately stop them, either by reprimanding them or ordering the armed police to threaten them.
Mr. Li Haijun said, "By practising the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, I am being a conscientious member of society who abides by the law. I am also striving to be a kinder person with a higher moral standard. How can this be unlawful? How can this be a crime?"
A female judge became furious upon hearing this. She rushed to Li Haijun and yanked on his handcuffs to stop him. The chief judge then announced an adjournment of the hearing.
These practitioners (Wang Xiaohui, Li Haijun, Liu Huiping, Zeng Lihua, Liu Xianju and others) were arrested by Changde City Domestic Security Division and Wuling District police stations in Hunan Province.
