Ms. Gu Xueshuang, 39, is an engineer from Tianjin. Due to her firm belief in Falun Gong, she was arrested on February 25th, 2010 by police from the Tanggu District of Tianjin. Just twelve days after her arrest, she was tortured to the point of not being able to speak or eat. She developed delirium and hallucinations after being injected with an unknown drug.
Ms. Gu and Her Entire Family Persecuted
Ms. Gu Xueshuang previously worked at the Construction Committee in the Tanggu District of Tianjin, but because she refused to give up her belief, she was demoted to working at the Binhai Heating Company in Tianjin.
Her father Gu Yingchun was arrested, detained, and tortured numerous times. He passed away in 2002. Her sister Gu Xueling was arrested and sent to a brainwashing session held during each New Year holiday, and she was sentenced to a forced labour camp.
Ms. Gu's father was from the Baodi District of Tianjin. He was president of the Dazhong Town Hospital, and secretary of the Lintingkou Town Hospital. Ms. Gu's sister is forty-six years old, and also from the Baodi District of Tianjin. She previously managed a clothing store.
Arrest
On February 25th, personnel from the Tanggu District 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong), along with police officers from the Hangzhoudao Police Station of Tanggu District, national security subdivision police officer Han Yong, and a man with the last name of Bo, arrested Ms. Gu Xueshuang at her workplace. Later, the group ransacked her home. At the time, only her eighty-year-old mother and ten-year-old child were at home. Her mother passed out due to fear, and her child could not stop crying.
The officers took a number of her personal belongings, including a desktop computer, printer, laptop computer, DVD copier, and an MP4 player. They threatened them, saying, "This is evidence of equipment capable of making illegal documents." They also took away Falun Gong-related books and other items. Ms. Gu was held at the Hangzhoudao Police Station against her will and expressed firmly that she wouldn't give up her belief. With no statement given by the accused under examination, and with no signed documents, the authorities still held her for 15 days. They claimed that having two signatures from the police officers was sufficient to hold her. After the 15 days, they forced her into the police car and transferred her to the Zhaojiadi Detention Centre.
During her detention, the police went everywhere to "collect" evidence, attempting to put together enough material so as to intensify the persecution against her. One police officer claimed that he had been following her for the last two years, and he knew everything about her. They reported the so-called "case" to the Public Security Bureau in Tianjin and intensified the persecution against them.
Injected with Unknown Drugs and Forced to Take Unknown Medicine
During her detention, the guards took her to Gangkou Hospital for a so-called physical exam. She refused to co-operate, and three guards squeezed her body and limbs into a ball and held her down on the ground. She could not breathe and was nearly unconscious.
The guards later took her to Tanggu Hospital. She was handcuffed to a bed, injected with unknown drugs, and forced to take unknown medicine. She then developed a severe headache and generalised joint pain, her tongue thickened, and she became delirious and started having hallucinations.
Ms. Gu accused the guards of forcing her to take poisonous drugs. The guards took out some pills of different colours and said, "How can this be poisonous?" An eyewitness personally heard the doctor telling the guards, "It is very dangerous to take this drug, and it requires around the clock observation with monitors." The guards later took her blood pressure and her heart rate. They talked among themselves, "If she were an average person, she should have long been dead by now."
In a Delirious State After Persecution
On March 8th, 2010, Ms. Gu's family received notice to take her home. She was released ahead of schedule. When they saw her, she was in critical condition, and was extremely weak and emaciated. She kept vomiting, had diarrhoea, and developed generalised oedema. She could not hold down any food or liquid.
Ms. Gu had always been very healthy. After practising Falun Gong, she had no illnesses whatsoever. But in just twelve short days, she was persecuted to the point of her life hanging on by a thread.
A police officer with the last name of Han threatened her husband numerous times to get documents from the hospital to verify that she had an illness. Otherwise, she would be sent to a labour camp. They attempted to shirk their responsibility that way.
Further Details on the Persecution Suffered by Ms. Gu and Her Family
In October 2000, Ms. Gu Xueshuang went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong, and was arrested by police from the Public Security Bureau in Beijing. Later, policeman Wang Lei and others from the Tanggu District Xinhe Police Station brought her home and sentenced her to one year in a forced labour camp. At the time, her baby was still in the nursing period. After she was released, she was notified that she had been dismissed from her job. She appealed, and was demoted to working at the Tianjin Binhai Heating Company.
Gu Yingchun, her father, began practising Falun Gong in 1997. He used to have diabetes and had suffered multiple heart attacks, but his poor health conditions vanished after beginning the practice. He went to Beijing on April 25th, 1999, to appeal for Falun Gong. Officials from the Public Health Bureau in Baodi District attempted to coerce him numerous times into giving up the practice, but he refused. On July 17th, 1999, at around 2:00 a.m., former director of the Political Security Department of the Public Security Bureau in the Baodi District Liu, and two others named Yuan and Qi Rusen, had Mr. Gu Yingchun detained at the Baidi Detention Centre for over forty days. He was deprived of sleep and food and was tortured. After he was released, personnel from the Public Security Bureau and the Public Health Bureau harassed him numerous times at home, forced him to write a guarantee statement to renounce practising Falun Gong, and confiscated his personal belongings - even to the point of opening up the floor to search. One time, his wife attempted to stop them and they pushed her hard to the ground and she passed out. For months, there were police cars parked outside of his home monitoring him. Mr. Gu Yingchun passed away on June 28th, 2002, under the severe pressure and persecution.
Gu Xueling, her sister, was arrested four times between July 18th, 1999 and December 2001. She was held for two to four weeks each time. She was sentenced to a forced labour camp for one-and-a-half years on September 28th, 2002. The police used extreme force when arresting her. Her nephew was knocked down to the ground and had a gun pointed at his head. Her husband, who does not practise Falun Gong, was also arrested and beaten severely. He was later released. She was arrested whenever the New Year holiday approached and held in brainwashing sessions. Her clothing store was forced to close, and she suffered huge financial losses as well.
