On June 29th, 2010, a brainwashing centre for Falun Gong practitioners was established by the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong), the Politics and Law Committee, and the Police Department of Jilin City, Jilin Province, in a welfare house located in the Fourth Commune of Xiaoguang Village, Shahezi Town, Chanying District, Jilin City. Falun Gong practitioners were arrested and held on the third floor of the welfare house and subjected to brainwashing. The arrested practitioners included Ms. Li Liwen, Mr. Wang Xue, Ms. Liu Min, Ms. Zhang Lixin and her sister, Ms. Shi Jingyu, along with an older lady whose name is unknown. Two practitioners from Panshi City, Jilin Province were also arrested.
Details of the Arrests and Detainment
At around 9:00 a.m. on June 29th, officers from the Politics and Law Committee of Chuanying District and the Huanxi Town Police Station went to Huanxi Town Central School under the guise of making an inspection. They were accompanied by a teacher from Central School when they went to Huniu School, where the practitioner Ms. Li Liwen held a teaching post. A woman from the Politics and Law Committee grabbed Ms. Li's hand, saying that she wanted to talk about work with her. At that time, a van carrying seven plainclothes officers arrived. The officers put Ms. Li into the van and took her to the brainwashing centre without telling the school headmaster. They said the reason for her arrest was that she had not written a statement renouncing or giving up her practice of Falun Gong.
On June 30th, practitioner Ms. Liu Min was arrested by police from the Xida District Police Station of Jilin City and officers from the Desheng Street Residential Committee, while she was working in a supermarket. She was then sent to the brainwashing centre.
Ms. Shi Jingyu was arrested while on her way home. She has been arrested and mistreated many times because she practises Falun Gong.
Mistreatment in the Brainwashing Centre
The arrested practitioners were held on the third floor of the welfare house. They were each placed in separate rooms and were forbidden from visiting each other. Each practitioner was closely monitored by two people. The monitors worked for the local street resident committee. Some were former practitioners who had been forced into giving up and renouncing Falun Gong. Dinners were served by specifically assigned persons and no practitioners was allowed to leave their room. They were closely monitored at all times. The officers announced that the practitioners would be sent to a labour camp or mental hospital if they did not give up their practice of Falun Gong. The monitors worked in shifts that changed twice each day at 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
The chief of the welfare house works for the city government of Jilin City. According to the latest information, the 610 Offices of the central government and of Jilin Province were also involved in the setting up the persecution of these practitioners.
