Falun Gong Practitioners Force-fed With Drugs at Huaihua Brainwashing Centre

Huaihua Brainwashing Centre in Hunan Province was set up by Zeng Qinghong, one of the highest ranking members of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), who allocated special funds for the centre. Over the years it has been used as a private prison for brainwashing and persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. Many practitioners from the Huaihua area have been detained there, and have been beaten, brainwashed, and force-fed with drugs that damage the central nervous system.

About the Huaihua Brainwashing Centre

Huaihua Brainwashing Centre is located near Hutianqiao District. It is a residential building owned by a colour printing factory. The building includes two units, each with twenty apartments. Each apartment is roughly 80 to 90 square metres, with two bedrooms and a living room. The building is enclosed by a wall equipped with a metal gate. The dining hall is in a separate building. From the outside it looks like an ordinary residential building, but each apartment's window is sealed with anti-theft metal netting.

More than Ten Practitioners Detained

In 2007, more than ten Falun Gong practitioners from Chenxi County were detained in the Huaihua Brainwashing Centre. They were forced to do physical labour, watch videos that defamed Falun Gong, and write statements to renounce practising Falun Gong. The names of some of the detainees are Mr. Liu Yuanbo, Mr. Yu Shaoqi, Ms. Gong Huamei, and Mr. Ou Jiafa.

Mr. Yu Shaoqi, Ms. Gong Huamei, and Mr. Liu Yuanbo were beaten and sexually assaulted at Huaihua. The original report of the torture suffered by these practitioners is available at:

Mr. Ou Jiafa Force-fed Drugs

A middle-aged male doctor and a young female nurse deceived elderly practitioner Mr. Ou Jiafa into taking a drug that damaged his central nervous system. Mr. Ou still shows symptoms of the drug's toxicity, including drooling, inability to speak clearly, and walking slowly.

Mr. Zhang Zhimin Given an Unknown Psychotropic Drug

In September 2010, CCP politburo standing member Zhou Yongkang, who is one of the main individuals in charge of persecuting Falun Gong in China, inspected the situation in Huaihua City, Hunan Province. Soon after that, the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners there was escalated.

One incident involved Xiang Shenggui, head of Yuanling County 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong); Ren Guilin, Zheng Ping, and Mi Zhiqiang, officials from the local State Security Bureau; Chen Yong, deputy town head of Yuanling Town and deputy chief of Yuanling Town Police Bureau, and about three other officials. They arrested Mr. Zhang Zhimin, put him in a car, and took him to the Huaihua Brainwashing Centre. On the same day, they also arrested Mr. Zhang Zhengcai, a practitioner from Qijiaping Town, Yuanling County.

Mr. Zhang Zhimin, who is employed at the Yuanling Town government office, has been persecuted for a long time. He was suspended from work and his salary was reduced. He lives on a very small salary.

In the brainwashing centre, Mr. Zhang Zhimin was forced to watch videos that defame Falun Gong. Because he refused to give up the practice, he was tortured and he subsequently developed high blood pressure. He was also force-fed unknown psychotropic drugs.

A male doctor in his twenties or thirties from the Huaihua Psychiatric Hospital was sent to the brainwashing centre to abuse Falun Gong practitioners. The hospital is also known as Huahua No. 4 People's Hospital, and Ms. Chen Chujun, a young female practitioner, was persecuted to death there. In the brainwashing centre, the doctor forced practitioners to swallow small yellow pills. As a result, Mr. Zhang Zhimin became weak all over, began sweating, and felt drowsy. One of the guards said that the drug was for treating high blood pressure. Eventually Mr. Zhang was released.
