Ms. Ma Junyan began practising Falun Gong in 1995. She suffered from rheumatoid arthritis and other illnesses; however, after practising Falun Gong, all her diseases disappeared. She is a good teacher who abides by the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance, but because of her firm belief in the cultivation practice of Falun Gong, she suffered persecution by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). In 2001, she refused to sign her name opposing Falun Gong at her school and she was arrested and transferred to the Rushan brainwashing centre.

On September 14th, Ms. Ma Junyan was arrested by authorities from the Rushan 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) and National Security Team because she wrote letters to people who are deceived by the CCP, telling them the facts about the persecution of Falun Gong. She was taken away while at school. Her home was raided and her computer, Falun Gong books, and other personal items were taken. She was transferred to Wangchun Forced Labour Camp on October 13th.
