Mr. Liu Guangzhi Wrongfully Imprisoned, Family Not Allowed to Visit

In July 2007, when Mr. Liu Guangzhi took pictures for another Falun Gong practitioner in court, national security personnel from the Longtan District in Jilin City arrested and tortured him. Longtan Court, under orders from the Jilin City 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong), sentenced Mr. Liu to six years in Gongzhuling Prison. Mr. Liu has been imprisoned since then.

Both the prison and the 610 Office are trying to conceal information about Mr. Liu, and the prison refuses to let anyone visit him. No one has seen Mr Liu since he was arrested in July 2007. We recently learned that he is being brutally tortured in the prison. The prison has been holding brainwashing sessions since August 2010 to intensify control over the Falun Gong practitioners and to try to force them to give up their belief. In the sessions, Mr. Liu was force-fed with pepper water and salt water, and confined in a solitary cell. He was tortured for over a month before he was returned to the prison cell.

After learning about Mr. Liu's situation, his family tried to visit him. On December 2nd, 2010, three of his family members brought clothes and money and travelled several hours to Gongzhuling Prison. When they got to the reception area, the receptionist told them that Mr. Liu had not been “transformed” [forcibly renounce Falun Gong], so they would have to get a recommendation letter from the 610 Office before they could visit him.

The family asked to give the warm clothes to Mr. Liu before getting a recommendation letter, but the receptionist told them that it was not allowed. The family asked to see the warden, but no one helped them. They eventually found a guard who told them where the warden was, but he warned them that they would not be able to see the warden.

The family tried everything but could not find a way to see the warden. They left 300 yuan¹ for Mr. Liu and returned home.

Another Falun Gong practitioner, Mr. Ma Ping, a former clerk at the Agricultural Bank in Jilin, is still being held in solitary confinement. He has only seen his son once in the past several years.

There are eight practitioners that we know of who are incarcerated in Gongzhuling Prison. They are: Mr. Liu Hongwei, Mr. Shen Lixin, Mr. Zheng Fengxiang, Mr. Liu Yuhe, Mr. Ma Ping, Mr. Liu Guangzhi, Mr. Zhao Guoxing, and Mr. Guo Yunqing.

Recently, we learned that Mr. Cai Fuchen, formerly employed at the Tax Bureau in Longjing City, Jilin Province, died because of the torture he suffered in Gongzhuling Prison.
