Ms. Tang Yanbo Tortured at Heizuizi Women’s Forced Labour Camp

Ms. Tang Yanbo is being detained in the First Division of the Heizuizi Women’s Forced Labour Camp in Jilin Province. Because she protested the persecution of Falun Gong, and refused to do labour, she was tortured on the morning of January 7th, 2011.

Guard Duan Yajuan forcibly dragged Ms. Tang into the guard office. Several guards handcuffed her to one leg of a desk. Chief Wang Limei shocked Ms. Tang in the face and neck with an electric baton, while hitting and kicking her. Ms. Tang shouted: “The guards are hitting me! Falun Gong is good!” The guards became worried that other inmates would hear and stuffed Ms. Tang’s mouth with a cloth and viciously pulled her hair. Guard Zhang Lihong played loud music and continued hitting and kicking Ms. Tang, who fainted as a result of the abuse. The guards tied her onto a death bed¹. Ms. Tang felt extreme pain throughout her chest, becoming nauseated and dizzy. There was a large red and swollen area on her body. Even after the torture, the guards forced her to work. Duan Yajuan would not allow others to support her to walk or to go down the stairs.

Guards Wei Dan, Liu Yinghui, Duan Yajuan and Song Fengmei were present the whole time.

On January 9th, 2011, Ms. Tang became ill with a fever. That day was during the weekend. When the guards went back to work on January 11th, they finally took Ms. Tang to the clinic for an examination. Ms. Tang's left arm was swollen, her rib was broken, and her lung was injured as a result of the torture. On January 13th, Ms. Tang was confined in a small room and two people kept watch, trying to block messages and visitors.

1. "Death Bed" torture: A practitioner is tied to a bed with his hands handcuffed above his head to the bed rails, and his legs tied with thin nylon ropes. The rope is then tightly wrapped around the practitioner's body and the bed, from his legs to his chest. The rope is wrapped so tightly that the practitioner has difficulty breathing and eventually loses consciousness.
