Mr. Chen Hongsong began to practise Falun Gong at the end of 1998. At the beginning of 2000, he was imprisoned for four and a half years. He was again detained by police on orders from the local 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) in May 2010 and sentenced to 8 years in prison.
Officers from Puning Domestic Security Division and Zhanlong Police Station arrested Mr. Chen and ransacked his home on the morning of May 18th, 2010. They detained him at Puning Detention Centre.
Puning City Court convened a trial on January 28th to hear Mr. Chen's case. However, during the trial, the lawyer assigned by the court to defend Mr. Chen handed him a copy of the judgement, which was dated January 24th. Mr. Chen's family members were not informed about the trial in advance. They only learned about the sentence from a kind-hearted person on February 9th, too late to file an appeal. The court manipulated the law and fabricated details of the case in order to convict Mr. Chen.
Mr. Chen's wife went to the 610 Office and other departments to request the release of her husband. However, they tried to shift responsibility back and forth.
