On May 20th, 2010, a robbery happened in the Dihao Neighbourhood in Nanming District, Guiyang City. When the security group in the neighbourhood was conducting an investigation, Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Lin Jian happened to be in the area. A security worker Chen Qinghua searched Mr. Lin because he was not an resident, and found some DVDs of Falun Gong materials on him. Chen Qinghua then reported Mr. Lin to the local police, and he was detained at the Nanming Police Station.
Mr. Lin's family went to the local 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) and the police station to ask for his release, but were turned away and threatened. Family visitation was also prohibited.
On December 17th, 2010, the Nanming District Court sentenced Mr. Lin to three years of imprisonment despite the lack of convincing evidence of any wrongdoing. Mr. Lin's family was not informed about the trial.
