Two Sons Detained; Mother Loses Support

Before the Chinese New Year, in front of the Huadian Detention Centre in Jilin Province, an elderly woman in her 70s called out, “Huzi, come back, Huzi...”

The elderly woman is the mother of Mr. Wang Xiaohu and Mr. Wang Xiaodong. Just because her two sons practise Falun Gong, a court run by the Chinese Communist Party sentenced Mr. Wang Xiaohu to seven years in prison in 2002 and Mr. Wang Xiaodong to seven years in prison in 2006. After being detained in prison for seven years, Mr. Wang Xiaohu was arrested and detained again by the police in 2010. Over the past 12 years in which the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has persecuted Falun Gong, Mr. Wang's family has seldom been together.

Mr. Wang's family used to be very happy. Xiaodong suffered from a severe and incurable kidney disease. Because his family could not afford medical treatment, he was close to death. In 1998, he started to practice Falun Gong, and his illnesses soon disappeared. Falun Gong gave him a new life. His older bother Xiaohu and his mother Ms. Wang Guilan were overjoyed, and they also started to practise Falun Gong. Falun Gong brought the family true happiness.

Then on July 20th, 1999, the CCP began its brutal persecution and slander of Falun Gong. At that time, Wang Xiaodong was in his 30s and did not understand the CCP's actions. The brothers went to Beijing to report their personal situation as to how they benefited physically and mentally from practising Falun Gong. However, they were detained and sent to a forced labour camp for one year. Several months after being released, Wang Xiaohu was arrested again in 2001. He was tortured with electric shocks and the tiger bench¹. Later, he was sentenced to seven years in prison and detained in Jilin Prison.
In March 2006, Mr. Wang Xiaodong was also arrested. Yu Jinji from the Huadian Domestic Security Team poured gasoline on him, put him on a tiger bench and used other means to torture him, breaking his ribs on one occasion.

Their elderly mother bore huge suffering. She went everywhere trying to secure Xiaodong's release. With the help of Falun Gong practitioners using every means to explain the facts of Falun Gong, the Huadian Court rejected Xiaodong's case four times, citing insufficient evidence. However, Yu Jinji from the Domestic Security Team and Yang Baolin from the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) fabricated evidence and brought false charges against Xiaodong. Finally they colluded with the court and sentenced Xiaodong to seven years in Gongzhuling Prison.

The brothers refused to renounce Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, and they were brutally tortured in prison. In 2007, when the mother went to visit Wang Xiaohu, she noticed that her son had difficulty walking as a result of being maltreated.

Wang Xiaohu was released in 2009. Less than a year later, on April 23rd, 2010, Xiaohu went to a farmer's market in Changshan Town and talked to people about Falun Gong. As a result, he was arrested and sentenced again. Because his physical condition did not meet the requirement, the prison refused to accept him. However, before the Chinese New Year, the Huadian Domestic Security Team still detained him and refused to release him.

In order to make a living, Mr. Wang's mother has to work as a temporary labourer in a restaurant. There is no heating in the apartment she rents. Every day she works until late into the night.

In addition to Wang Xiaohu, the prison refused to accept practitioners Bai Jingzhi and Fu Renjiang because of their physical conditions. Their families are also waiting for their release. However, the Huadian Domestic Security Team refuses to release them.

1. "Tiger Bench": Prisoners are forced to sit on a small iron bench that is approximately 20 cm (6 inches) tall with their knees tied together. With their hands tied behind their backs or sometimes placed on their knees, they are forced to sit straight up and look straight ahead without movement for long periods of time.
