Song Guiyun was arrested on the afternoon of December 11th, 2010 as she spoke with people about Falun Gong and exposed the persecution in Fuxingdi Town, Fumeng County, Fuxin City. She was later sentenced to three years and seven months in prison.
Ms. Song has been arrested many times since the Chinese Communist Party started the persecution of Falun Gong in July 1999. She has been subjected to detention and sentencing many times, and has been held in the Liaoning Province Women's Prison, Masanjia Forced Labour Camp in Liaoning Province, and the Fuxin County Detention Centre in the Menggu ethnic autonomous county. She was detained in the Liaoning Province Women's Prison for three years.
The following is a letter from Ms. Song's son.
There is an elderly woman who has had a hard life. She was widowed at the age of forty-four. She brought up her two young children despite being poor and not in good health. Her name is Ms. Song Guiyun; she is my mother, the best mother in the world.
Mother used to always look worried. Then one day in 1997, mother came home and said cheerfully: “I have received a priceless gift.” Since then, my mother has had mental support and become healthy and happy. She has also become optimistic, and our family was filled with happiness.
However, starting in July 1999, Falun Gong was persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). She lost the freedom of belief. Mother could not comprehend the CCP's actions and wanted to ask about this situation. As a result, she was arrested by the local police station and sent to Fumeng Detention Centre for one year.
Since mother would not give up her belief, she was later arrested twice, our home was ransacked, and she spent almost seven years in Masanjia Forced Labour Camp in Liaoning Province and Dabei Prison in Shenyang. Prison guards in those places used various inhumane torture methods on this kind, elderly woman. My mother suffered cruelty there. However, her strong belief in her heart supported her; thus, she was able to endure the torture. Still, physically, mother had suffered tremendously: her back was injured and she would suddenly lose control of her legs while walking and fall. Her legs had numbness and pain, which often kept her up at night.
In December 2010, mother was arrested again because she spoke out about her beliefs. She was detained at Xindi Detention Centre in Fuxin City. She was sentenced to three years and seven months in prison by the Fumeng County Court. Her health is in a terrible state, she needs assistance while walking and she had to be carried out of the hospital after a physical exam. My mother's body is hurting and so is my heart!
What has my mother done wrong? She only wants to have a healthy body and a cheerful heart, she wants a more fulfilled spiritual mind—has she hurt anyone? Why does she have to be tortured like this? Those who have abused her, don't they have a mother? How can they do such things to an elderly woman in her 60s!? Where are their consciences?
We will never stop trying to rescue my mother. As long as my mother is not home, we will not stop exposing the inhumane crimes committed against her. We will let the whole world know about it! At the same time, we want to call on those who have a good conscience to extend helping hands and speak out for justice, to stop this crime together.
Here, I also wanted to thank those compassionate friends who have always helped and supported me!
I firmly believe kindness is worth each of us safeguarding, because the world needs compassion; justice will prevail!
Signed, the son of Ms. Song Guiyun
