Incarcerated for Seven Years, Practitioner Mr. Liu Sanqiang from Shaowu City, Fujian Province Is in Police Custody Again

Mr. Liu Sanqiang, a 39-year-old Falun Gong practitioner, was arrested again around April 15th, less than three years after serving a seven-year sentence.

After graduating from Zhongnan Forestry College in Zhuzhou City, Hunan Province in 1993, Mr. Liu took a job at the Shaowu City Automobile Repair Factory in Fujian Province. Because of his excellent performance, he was soon promoted to deputy head of the stamping shop. As a recent college graduate, he became the youngest key technician at his factory. In 1996, he was fortunate enough to begin the practice of Falun Gong, and he faithfully followed the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.

Mr. Liu went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong in 2000 and was subsequently arrested. After his release, his factory fired him and sent people to monitor him as he went about his daily life.

One day in 2001 while distributing informational materials about Falun Gong, Mr. Liu was seized by police. Police department head (at the time) Lin Qanping and criminal investigation team head Chen Hua directed their accomplices to brutally beat him for two days before sending him to a detention centre. Mr. Liu was then given a seven-year sentence and transferred to Minxi Prison.

Mr. Liu was released in August 2008 and returned to Shaowu City. One year later, he and his wife welcomed their first child. However, the local authorities kept harassing the family. Unable to bear the huge pressure, his wife divorced him.

In the two years that followed, Mr. Liu established a successful middle-school English learning centre. He was soon able to earn a stable income and improve his living conditions. At the end of last year, his wife returned to him together with their child. His family was reunited.

Around April 15th, Mr. Liu was arrested again after a student's parent reported him to the police for discussing Falun Gong with his students. His colleague, Xu Yanping, a 22-year-old non-practitioner who is sympathetic toward Falun Gong, was taken away at the same time.
