Xie Chengxin Arrested and Missing, Husband Imprisoned

Xie Shinong and a group of agents from the Fuqin Street Committee arrested Ms. Xie Chengxin at home around April 19th. Her whereabouts are unknown, as authorities still have not notified her family.

Xie Chengxin missing

On April 21st and 22nd, Ms. Xie's relatives called her many times, but no one picked up the phone. They became very concerned, since Ms. Xie’s family had been detained many times previously. They went to her home on the morning of April 23rd. Ms. Xie's neighbours told them that Xie Shinong from the Fuqin Street Committee 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) had led a group of people and forcefully took Ms. Xie from her home at around 8 a.m. three or four days earlier. They claimed that it was for “education,” referring to forced brainwashing.

When Ms. Xie's relatives entered her home, they found that the Falun Gong book, Zhuan Falun and other Falun Gong books were missing. The home looked like it had been ransacked, and a poster from one of the doors was torn down. Ms. Xie's relatives immediately went to the Fuqin Street Committee, but the office was closed for the weekend. No one has notified any family members about Ms. Xie's situation to this day.

In mid-April, a week prior to the arrest, Ms. Xie, along with her daughter, went to visit her husband, Mr. Jiang Zonglin, who is imprisoned at Deyang Prison. The prison officials refused to allow Ms. Xie and her daughter to see Mr. Jiang and said that he was being subjected to brainwashing. Worried about her husband, Ms. Xie reported the situation to the prison administration office. However, the prison administration replied that the appeals office staff was out of town for a meeting. Ms. Xie planned to visit them the following week, but was arrested before she could do so.

Ms. Xie had been detained by Xie Shinong at the Jinniu Brainwashing Centre in the Dongzikou area on two previous occasions. During the second detention, her husband was sentenced to prison by Wuhou Court. Two defence lawyers representing the family believed that Xie Shinong had committed the crime of illegal detention.

Jiang Zonglin tortured

Jiang Zonglin is a former director of the Mingyuan Institute of Architecture, which is affiliated with the Chengdu City Administration Bureau. In October of 2008, 11 Falun Gong practitioners, including Mr. Jiang, Zhong Fangqiong and some of their family members, were sentenced to prison. Mr. Jiang has been repeatedly tortured in prison.

Previously, Mr. Jiang had been sentenced to one year of forced labour at the Xinhua Forced Labour Camp in Sichuan Province, as a result of going to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong.
