Ms. Gao Deyu, 70, is from Xichang City, Sichuan Province. She has suffered over a decade of persecution by the Chinese communist regime for her belief in Falun Gong. Ms. Gao is currently imprisoned at the Longquanyi Women's Prison in Chengdu City and is in critical condition.
Ms. Gao was arrested on September 26th, 2009. On September 14th, 2010, the Xichang Court sentenced her to 12 years in prison. On April 10th, 2011, she was transferred from the Liangshanzhou Detention Centre to the Longquanyi Women's Prison in Chengdu.
After two days in the prison, Ms. Gao's condition became critical. Prison officials said that she had a pre-existing condition and that her blood pressure had been as high as 228 at admission. A couple of days later, she was taken to the Jintang Prison Hospital. There it was noted that one of her teeth had been knocked out, and that her hands, arms, and legs were covered with purple bruises from beatings.
Ms. Gao's condition is rapidly deteriorating and is frequently critical; her blood pressure remains dangerously elevated.
Since the Chinese communist regime started to persecute Falun Gong in 1999, Ms. Gao has been arrested at least eight times, imprisoned five times, and held at a brainwashing centre once. Officials also extorted 5,000 yuan1 from her family during these years.
