Mr. Chen Yuemin, a former employee of the Sanmenxia City Textile Equipment Factory, was arrested, detained, and tortured for over ten years for believing in the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. In 2001, he was sentenced to five years in prison to be served at the Xinmi Prison in Zhengzhou City, Henan Province. When he was on the verge of death, he was released. After his release, he was constantly harassed and unable to recover his health. He passed away on April 26th, at the age of 48.
Persecuted to the verge of death
When the persecution of Falun Gong began in July 1999, officials from the local government, the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong), the police department, the police station, and the residential committee went to Mr. Chen's home to harass him.
In July 1999, while he was working, he was taken to an office at his place of work and detained there for one week. In June 2000, he was arrested and held at the Sanmenxia City Detention Centre for nine months. While in detention, he was handcuffed, shackled and brutally tortured several times while being interrogated. He was forced to kneel down on a steel sewage cover in the scorching hot sun with several bricks on his head. He was tortured this way for seven months. He was not released until 5,000 yuan1 was extorted from his family.
In June 2001, Mr. Chen was reported to authorities while he was distributing Falun Gong materials in a residential area. He was arrested and held at the Sanmenxia City Detention Centre. Under the authority of the Sanmenxia City 610 Office, he was repeatedly tortured and interrogated by the police. He was later sentenced to five years in prison and sent to the Xinmi Prison in Zhengzhou City. He was released when his health had deteriorated to the point he was unable to perform labour.
Working with an ill-body and under constant harassment
Although Mr. Chen was released from prison, he no longer had a healthy body and was fired from his job. His daughter was still in school. When his wife lost her job, he was forced to find a job to make money to support his family.
Officials from the local government, the 610 Office, the police department, the police station and the residential committee, went to Mr. Chen's home to harass him. His health worsened. By the second half of 2010, he could no longer work and was forced to resign.
Mr. Chen became emaciated and could not stand straight. He looked like an old man. He was extremely weak, became bedridden, and was unable to eat. He could no longer support his family.
Mr. Chen passes away at 48 years old
In the early morning on April 26th, Mr. Chen passed away at the age of 48. Mr. Chen was a kind person who was persecuted relentlessly for refusing to renounce his belief in the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. His untimely and unjust death brought immense sorrow to his loved ones.
