Practitioner Ms. Yu Changli was a maths teacher at the Fourth High School in Nongan County, Jilin Province. On May 2nd, Ms. Yu Changli and Ms. Yang Shumei, both detained in the Nongan County Detention Centre, were rushed to the emergency department at the Second Hospital of Jilin University, Changchun City. Ms. Yu Changli passed away that same day. She was only 44 years old.

Ms. Yu began practising Falun Gong in May 1999. She strictly followed the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance as the standard to guide her daily life. As a result, her frail body became healthy. She also won the praise of fellow teachers and parents for the positive influence Falun Gong had on her students.

After the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started its persecution of Falun Gong in 1999, Ms. Yu went to the National Appeals Office in Beijing in February 2000, but was arrested. She was sent back and detained in the Nongan County Detention Centre. After a ten day hunger strike, her family was able to get her released. In the summer of 2002, she was arrested again while posting informational materials about Falun Gong and was detained for one month in the Nongan Detention Centre. After she was released from the detention centre, school authorities of the Fourth High School asked her to write a guarantee statement to renounce practising Falun Gong. When she refused to write the statement, the school authorities stopped her work. Ms. Yu didn't agree with the decision and continued going to school, but the school authorities refused to pay her salary. In 2003, she was dismissed and was forced to leave her students and classroom.

While she and another practitioner, Ms. Zhang Danfeng, were discussing Falun Gong with some tourists on May 31st, 2010, they were arrested by police. Ms. Yu was taken to the Changchun Third Detention Centre.

On March 5th, 2011, Ms. Yu was transferred from the Changchun Third Detention Centre to the Nongan County Detention Centre. She and two other practitioners, Ms. Yang Shumei and Ms. Zhang Danfeng, held a hunger strike to protest the persecution. According to eyewitnesses, in late April 2011, Ms. Yu was sent to Nongan County Chinese Medicine Hospital in handcuffs and foot shackles for lab tests. She was unable to walk and had to be carried by two people. She weighed only sixty pounds and had kidney prolapsus, but the Nongan County public security still refused to release her.

On May 2nd, Ms. Yu was admitted to the emergency department of the Second Hospital of Jilin University in Changchun City. She passed away on the same day.

Several practitioners in Nongan County have been persecuted to death, including Mr. Zhangyuan Ming, Mr. Liu Chengjun, and Mr. Wang Qibo. They were all law abiding, kind-hearted citizens. Because they adhered to their faith and told people about Falun Gong, they were arrested and tortured until they died. Two other practitioners, Ms. Yang Shumei and Ms. Zhang Danfeng, are in critical condition.
