In November 2010, Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Lin Wenwei from Xiamen City, Fujian Province, was so severely tortured in Fuqing Prison that he was in critical condition. He regained consciousness after several days of emergency treatment. His whole body was black and blue. His internal organs were damaged, and he showed symptoms of brain atrophy, as he could not think or speak clearly. It is not known what kind of lethal drug that prison guards had injected him with to damage his nervous system. Mr. Lin was sentenced to four years in prison at the end of 2009, as well as three years in prison in 2000.
Mr. Lin suffered from illness when he was young. After practising Falun Gong, he became a healthy, kind-hearted and sincere person. Since the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started persecuting Falun Gong in 1999, the Xiamen 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong), Public Security Team, State Security Team, and residential committees have continuously pressured and harassed Falun Gong practitioners. Practitioners have been followed, illegally arrested, and have had their homes ransacked. Mr. Lin's home was monitored by the Shuanglianchi Residential Committee, which reported to the Xiahe Police Station. He was often harassed or followed by the residential committee staff members, and his home was also ransacked.
Because of the CCP's frenzied persecution and slandering of Falun Gong,, Mr. Lin went to Beijing in August 2000 to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong, and was arrested. He was taken back to the local police station and then sentenced to three years in prison. His ailing father was left alone at home.
At the end of 2003, after serving his sentence, Mr. Lin returned home and was frightened to see that his father's condition had become weaker and he was constantly ill. His sister was his only sibling, and had been married for many years. He dedicated himself to taking care of his father. The two of them depended on each other for survival and relied on his father's modest retirement pension to maintain a living. He was constantly being harassed and put under surveillance, which made it difficult for him to find a job. He was also required to report to the neighbourhood committee. He suffered enormous physical and psychological harm. Under such unfair treatment, he spoke the truth to people to expose the crimes of the police.
On the morning of April 5th, 2004, Mr. Lin was arrested while shopping for groceries and taken to the police station. The police told his father later that afternoon about his arrest, but they didn't tell him the whereabouts of his son. His brother-in-law found out he was being held in a local detention centre. His father went to the police station to ask for his release, but they just ignored him. The father was sad and anxious and became ill. Not until more than a year later, did he find out his son had been sentenced to three years in prison, which caused his father to grieve and later become seriously ill with advanced cancer.
When his father was dying, his sister and relatives sent an application for Mr. Lin to come back to take care of his father and see him one last time. The 610 Office personnel and police did not approve the application. His father passed away with regret. At that time, while still in prison, Mr. Lin did not know his father had passed away. Later, even their house was taken by the police.
At the end of 2009, the 610 Office and the National Security personnel arrested Mr. Lin while he was clarifying the truth to people. He was sentenced to four years in prison.
In early November 2010, Mr. Lin was so severely tortured that he was in a coma. The prison guards sent him to the Fuzhou Hospital for treatment. Only when his condition failed to improve did they notify his family. Mr. Lin's sister and her husband went to the Fuzhou Hospital and found that his entire body was black and blue. They asked the hospital officials for his release so that they could take him back to Xiamen City for treatment. Fear of liability and having no alternative, the prison allowed the family to take him for treatment.
Mr. Lin was then taken to the Haichang Number 2 Hospital in Xiamen by ambulance. After a few days of treatment, Mr. Lin regained consciousness, but he couldn't think or speak clearly, nor could he remember the details of his ordeal at Fuqing Prison. His internal organs were damaged and he showed symptoms of brain atrophy. The prison officials demanded that Mr. Lin's family pay the ambulance expenses, but they refused. The prison refused to pay any additional medical expenses for Mr. Lin.
The CCP violently persecute Falun Gong practitioners. They arrest and deprive them of their personal liberty, torture them, and force them to renounce their faith. They ignore the law and basic human rights. They cruelly harm good people and endanger the whole society. We must stop this inhuman persecution. We appeal to the international community to condemn the CCP for their evil acts, uphold human rights and stop the persecution.
