Recently, officers from criminal court of Honghe Intermediate Court sentenced Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Cui Ling to three years in prison. Ms. Cui commissioned her family to appeal and Yunnan Provincial High Court filed the case for the second time on May 16th.

Officers from Honghe Court had repeatedly asked Ms. Cui's family not to plead innocence. Ms. Cui's family thought they should respect the law and facts, so they persisted in Ms. Cui's innocence in appealing. They requested that Ms. Cui be released immediately and unconditionally.

Ms. Cui had suffered liver disease, hyperthyroidism and other diseases for many years before she started practising Falun Gong. She also had a bad temper. Since she practised Falun Gong in 1998, she has followed Falun Gong's principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. As a result, all her illnesses disappeared and she became amiable. She worked in education for many years and she has been the backbone teacher of her school.

When Ms. Cui went to the garden of No. 59 Hospital in Kaiyuan City to meet practitioner Ms. Liu Yan on the morning of July 3rd, 2010, police officers Xu Yongping, Ma Chongning, Zhang Minglei and others from Kaiyuan Domestic Security Team took her away by force and ransacked her office and home in the afternoon. They confiscated two computers, a photo of the founder of Falun Gong, and Falun Gong books and leaflets exposing the persecution of Falun Gong and then detained her again in Kaiyuan City Detention Centre on July 4th. Ms. Cui's family requested to meet with her many times, but the guards unreasonably refused the request. Ms. Cui went on a hunger strike in the detention centre. Due to her family's persistent efforts, she was released on bail on August 6th.

Officers from Kaiyuan City Procuratorate informed Ms. Cui on December 9th, 2010 that her case had been prosecuted. A month later, they told Ms. Cui that her case had been transferred to the Honghe Procuratorate.

Officers from Honghe Court opened a court session on April 1st, 2011.

Ms. Cui's daughter acted as her defender and pleaded innocent for her. Before the end of the trial, Ms. Cui requested to submit a final statement, but presiding judge Li Youcheng unreasonably denied her request.

Finally, Li Youcheng, Fang Xijun and Zheng Lixin from criminal court of Honghe Court sentenced Ms. Cui to three years in prison and detained her again at Kaiyuan Detention Centre on April 22nd.
