Practitioner Ms. Liu Yujing Arrested by Officers from Shixhong District Branch of Jinan Police Department

Ms. Liu Yujing is a farm worker and a Falun Gong practitioner. On November 16th, 2010, officers from the Shizhong District branch of the Jinan City Police Department in Shandong Province arrested her at home. She was detained and put on trial at the Shizhong District Court on May 6th. Her husband and her daughter, Ms. Tian Guangqing, were not allowed inside the courtroom.

When Ms. Tian attempted to file a letter of complaint about the arrest, detention, and trial of her mother, Zhang Jisheng, chief of the Accusation Appeals Office of the Procuratorate, refused to accept it, saying that an “internal document” prohibited the office from accepting cases related to Falun Gong practitioners. Ms. Tian left the letter at the office before leaving.

Below are the excerpts from this letter, in which Ms. Tian detailed the unlawful actions toward her mother, Ms. Liu, by the Shizhong District Branch of the Jinan Police Department:

Shortly after 7:00 p.m. on November 16th, 2010, a plainclothes police officer named Chen led several other officers from the Shizhong District branch of the Jinan Police Department to search my family's residence without a search warrant. They confiscated our computer. One officer asked my 16-year-old sister, Ms. Tian Guangwei, “Does your family keep Falun Gong books and related materials?” Chen also warned my sister not to interfere with the search.

My mother, Ms. Liu Yujing, came home at around 7:40 p.m. Several police officers were in the courtyard with a camera. They wanted my mother to go with them to the police station. When she refused, they pushed her to the ground and handcuffed her. At the same time, one of the officers called for more officers from the Shiliulihe Police Station, which is under the control of the Jinan Police Department.

At around 8:00 p.m. the officers left without providing us with a list of what they took. They showed a copy of the “notice to family members of those summoned” to my sister and asked her to sign and fingerprint it.

On November 26th, 2010, I found out that my mother was at the Jinan City Detention Centre and that she might need more winter clothes. I went to the Shiliulihe Police Station to get a “Detention Notice” and signed appropriate documentation to bring some clothes to my mother.

On December 4th, we finally received a registered mail containing a “Notice of Arrest,” stating that my mother had been arrested.

One day in March 2011, two officers from the Shiliulihe Police Station came to see my father. They brought my father to the police station, where they asked him about my mother's daily life and had him sign and fingerprint the statements that he made.
