When Ms. Liu Honghua's was thirty-six years old, her husband died and left her to look after their three children. She was left traumatized and deeply depressed. Her physical condition gradually deteriorated and she ended up in the hospital.

Ms. Liu was suffering from many illnesses and had undergone different treatments, but to no avail. When she heard that Falun Gong could make people healthy, she went to Jinan City in 1994 with some friends to listen to Teacher Li Hongzhi's, the founder of Falun Gong lectures. After learning the practice, her illnesses soon disappeared.

When the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) launched the brutal persecution of Falun Gong in July 1999, Ms. Liu went to appeal to the higher authorities in Weifang City and Beijing. As a result, her wages were reduced and she was often detained in her workplace. In 2000, her salary and welfare benefits were stopped and she had no income. She was monitored by the authorities and her children were also denied access to their wages.

In the Spring of 2009, the Taojialing Dongjiao School was turned into a brainwashing centre, specifically set up to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. Former city party secretary Zou Qingzhong and head of the Political and Judiciary Committee Li Hongde instructed the Zhucheng City Police Department to arrest practitioners in the local area.

Officer Cui Bo from the Zhucheng Domestic Security Division and three other officers broke into Ms. Liu's home at 5:30 p.m. on March 30th, 2009. They pushed Ms. Liu's son, Mr. Zhang Xinming, to the ground and brutally kicked and punched him in front of Ms. Liu's other two children. Ms. Liu and her son were then taken away.

Ms. Liu was tortured in the Taojialing Dongjiao School brainwashing centre, and was released several days later. She suffered tremendously since the incident, and died on June 2nd, 2011.
