Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Peng Dongjun was arrested by four plainclothes police officers at the Anju Township bus station at approximately 10:00 a.m. on June 24th. She has since been secretly detained at Tongliang County Detention Centre. Ms. Peng went on a hunger strike to protest her arrest and her physical condition is critical.
This is the third time Ms. Peng has been arrested. She was previously imprisoned for four years, during which time she was tortured via various methods, including having her hands cuffed behind her back.
Since July 22nd, 1999, Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials have been instructing people who don’t know the truth about Falun Gong to monitor and report on Ms. Peng's activities. She has even been harassed and threatened at home.
In February 2000, Ms. Peng and two other Falun Gong practitioners went to Beijing to appeal for an end to the persecution of Falun Gong. They were arrested by Beijing police and sent back home. They were then detained at the Tongliang Detention Centre for 37 days. During that period of time, over 20 police officers participated in torturing Ms. Peng. They handcuffed her hands behind her back and then stepped on her hands with their boots. As a result, one hand was severely injured and both hands were extremely weak for over a year. Meanwhile, the police went to Ms. Peng’s home and ransacked the place. They took all of her personal belongings.
In order to provoke hatred toward Falun Gong, the local police department conspired with the Bureau of Industry and Commerce of Tongliang County. Ms. Peng Dongjun was fired from her job on March 22nd, 2000. Moreover, officials announced that all employees at the Individual & Private Enterprise Association would also be fired as the result of Ms. Peng’s activities. This caused tremendous hardship for Ms. Peng and her family.
In December 2000, Ms. Peng Dongjun told people the facts about Falun Gong, distributed information flyers, and went to Beijing for a second time to appeal to the government. She was again illegally arrested and imprisoned at the Tongliang Detention Centre for a year. During that time, Ms. Peng was publicly humiliated twice by being tied up and paraded on the streets. Hu Guofeng, director of the detention centre, and other police officers beat and scolded her many times. Ms. Peng was subsequently sentenced to four years in prison, and sent to Yongchuan Women's Prison.
In 2004, when Ms. Peng Dongjun returned home from prison, the CCP officials targeted her for persecution. For many years Ms. Peng was constantly tracked, monitored, harassed, and threatened.
On June 24th, 2011, she was again arrested. According to an eyewitness, she was arrested at the Anju Township bus station after she was passing out information about Falun Gong. She is currently being detained at the Tongliang County Detention Centre.
