Jia Wenya was transferred to Tangshan City, Hebei Province in May 2011, as the Tangshan Public Security Bureau chief. After he took office, he conspired with assistant chief Liu Xiaozhong and Xu Demao, the party secretary of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Politics and Law Committee in Tangshan, and ordered the Tangshan police force to begin a three-month crackdown on Falun Gong practitioners. During these past two months, the Tangshan officers have conducted massive arrests, detainment, confiscation of property, and extortion, and imposed forced-labour sentences on many Falun Gong practitioners, causing hardship for many families.
Since May, over 100 practitioners have been persecuted or harassed. The following information is current as of July 5th:
On the morning of May 2nd, 2011, Yutian County Public Security Bureau officials arrested practitioner Zhang Haiyan, then took her to the Kaiping Forced Labour Camp in Tangshan. She was sentenced to one year and nine months of forced labour.
According to information received on May 2nd, a CCP court held a trial for practitioner Li Yanling from Leting County.
According to information received on May 3rd, practitioner Gao Pinlian (in his/her fifties) from Donglizhuangzi Village, Tuanpiaozhuang Town, Zunhua, Tangshan was arrested by Public Security Bureau officials on April 29th.
On the evening of May 6th, officers from Changzhuang Town Police Station in Fengrun broke into practitioner Zhang Xiujuan's home in Jinchuanyuan Village, Changzhuang Town and took her to the Changzhuang Police Station. She was later taken to the Kaiping Forced Labour Camp.
Authorities of Jidong Prison in Tangshan started hiring women to tempt male practitioners sexually, aiming to eventually break their wills, from early May.
According to information received on May 10th, practitioner Zhang Zhigang from Zunhua was arrested and sentenced to one year and six months of forced labour. He is currently imprisoned at the Kaiping Forced Labour Camp in Tangshan.
On May 10th, CCP authorities sent a sizable force of armed police to Jiazhuangzi Village and Xiaonianzhuang Village in Baozidian Town, Zunhua for a large-scale arrest of Falun Gong practitioners. According to one source, at least 50 practitioners were arrested in Jiazhuangzi Village alone.
Officers from the Youyi Road Police Station, in Tangshan have frequently harassed practitioner Meng Xiuxin's family in Tangshan since May 11th.
On May 12th, practitioners including Yan Fuxiang from Puchihe Village, Xiliucun Township, Zunhua were arrested.
Practitioners Fu Weijun and Dong Heying from Tangshan were arrested on May 12th.
On May 13th, practitioner Liu Hongyuan from Hancheng, Fengrun was arrested at an open market by officers from Xinjuntun Police Station. Police also confiscated her mobile phone. That afternoon, she was transferred to the Fengrun Detention Centre.
The Yutian County Court held a trial for practitioner Huang Kejun on May 13th.
On May 13th, practitioner He Jiapeng from Qian'an was arrested.
Practitioners including Li Jianguo from Beizhan, Tangshan were arrested on May 16th.
Practitioner Gao Ruizhen from Houdouhe, Kaiping District was arrested by police on May 16th, at the Wangqianzhuang Open Market, in Zhengzhuangzi Township, Kaiping District, and taken to the Zhengzhuangzi Police Station in Kaiping District.
Practitioner Mao Zhanfang from the Luannan County Business Bureau was arrested on May 16th, by Public Security Bureau officials in Luannan County, Hebei Province.
On the morning of May 17th, practitioner Zhao Yunlong and his son from Dafenggu Village, Yuehe, Kaiping in Tangshan were arrested.
Practitioner Liu Lijun from Tangshan was recently detained at the Yang Guanlin Town Police Station.
Practitioner Gao Xuying from Tangshan was arrested on May 18th.
On May 18th, practitioner Zhao Ye from Tangshan was arrested by the Gaoxin District Public Security Bureau. She was illegally sentenced to one year and nine months of forced labour, and is currently imprisoned at the Hebei Province Women's Forced Labour Camp, where she is being subjected to severe persecution.
On May 19th, practitioner Yang Xiuchun was arrested by Tanghai County Public Security Bureau officials. Early that evening, he was transferred to the Tanghai Detention Centre.
On May 20th, Yangguanlin Police Station officials in Tangshan attempted to send practitioner Deng Xiuyan's five relatives to the forced labour camp: Zhang Lijun, Deng's mother-in-law, Zhang Baoxiang, Ye Suping and Jing Shuxiang.
On May 24th, practitioner Zhang Haiming from Lugezhuang Village, Fengrun District was arrested and held at the Fengrun Detention Centre. Officers from the Yongji Street Police Station presented an arrest warrant to his family and threatened to sentence him. They required Zhang Haiming to sign a guarantee statement giving up practising Falun Gong, before they would release him. Mr. Zhang refused to sign.
On May 25th, officials from the Nanyan Police Station from Jidong Prison, Nanbao Developing District Public Security Bureau and Tangshan Domestic Security Division conspired and arrested Ms. Li Wen'e and her husband Mr. Wang Weidong. They also ransacked their home.
According to information received on May 27th, practitioner Gong Yanfeng has been harassed and subsequently monitored by police since April 20th. She is now homeless and destitute.
On May 27th, practitioner Yang Xiuchun from The Fifth Team, Ninth Farm, Tanghai County was arrested and taken to the Kaiping Forced Labour Camp in Tangshan.
Around May 27th, practitioner Xu Lanru from Tangshan was arrested by Yonghongqiao Police Station officers.
Around May 27, 2011, practitioner Liu Chunling was arrested from her home by Shuigang Police Station officers. The police also confiscated her Falun Dafa books and items. Currently, her whereabouts are unknown.
On May 28th, Dr. Cao, his wife, Li Qiang and his father-in-law, practitioner Di and practitioner Li were arrested by Fujiatun Police Station officers in Lubei District, Tanshang. Dr. Cao's home was ransacked.
On May 31st, practitioner Liu Fenglan from Tangshan gave a Falun Gong flyer to a person while selling goods at Jiazhuangzi, Zhengzhuangzi Township, Kaiping District. She was arrested and taken to the Kaiping District Public Security Bureau by officer Wei Jingyi, and two other officers from the Kaiping Public Security Bureau in Tanshang. That afternoon, Wei released Ms. Liu, only after extorting 2,000 yuan1 from her family.
On May 31st, practitioner Meng Lihui from Fengnan District, Tangshan was arrested.
On June 2nd, practitioner Lin Xiuling from Lizhuangzi Village, Dangyu Town, Zunhua was arrested and taken to the Zunhua Detention Centre.
On June 2nd, practitioner Shen Fu from Luan County was taken from his workplace by officers from the First Section of the Luan County Public Security Bureau, where he is currently being detained. Officer Yuan Yongfeng from the first section and Luan County 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) assistant director Tian Guoru conducted the arrest.
On June 2nd, Public Security Bureau officials from Lubei District in Tangshan and Qiaoxi Police Station from Tangjiazhuang broke into practitioner Peng Xiaoyun's home in Tangjiazhuang. Later, Peng Xiaoyun was arrested and taken to the Tangshan Detention Center by the officials, then transferred to the Kaiping Forced Labour Camp.
On June 3rd, practitioners Wang Guizhi, Li Xiaojie and Qiang Suzhen from Guzhi District, Tangshan were arrested at the Guzhi District open market and taken to the Guye District Police Station by plainclothes officers. They were later held at the Luan County Detention Centre where they were subjected to persecution. Li Xiaojie and Qiang Suzhen were held at the Luan County Detention Centre for 15 days, and were then sentenced to one year of forced labour. They were taken to the Kaiping Forced Labour Camp by Public Security Bureau officials in Tangshan on June 17th. On June 4th, practitioner Zhao Yunlong from Tangshan was sentenced to a forced labour term.
On June 6th, practitioners Chai Shuzhen, Zhao Guiping and Liu Hua from Qianxi were reported to CCP authorities while distributing leaflets exposing the persecution, and were subsequently arrested by Chengguan Police Station officers. That afternoon, police released Liu Hua but ransacked his home and confiscated two Falun Gong books. Cai Shuzhen and Zhao Guiping are being held at the Qianxi County Detention Centre.
