Ms. Jin Lianhua is a Korean-Chinese Falun Gong practitioner from Tumen, Yanbian, Jilin Province, China. On May 29th, Ms. Jin was arrested for practising Falun Gong and transferred to Helong where she was subjected to interrogation and torture by the police. It was not until she was in critical condition that she was taken to Yanji City Hospital for emergency care. The following is the statement from Ms. Jin Lienhua on the abuse she has faced.

My name is Jin Lianhua. I am a Falun Gong practitioner from Tumen, Yanbian, Jilin Province, China. At around 3:30 p.m., May 29th, agents from the Yanbian Public Security Bureau (PSB) and five police officers from the Helong State Security Team arrested me while I was at work in Yanji City. They took me to the Bajiazi Police Station in Helong.

On the way there, my head was covered with a black bag, which made it difficult to breathe. While detained in the Bajiazi Police Station for five days, I faced torture daily, which nearly took my life. In response, they took me to a retirement home before they transferred me to Tumen City Hospital and then to Yanji City Hospital. On June 15th, the hospital announced that they could not do anything more for me. It was not until then that I was released.

However, the Helong State Security Team and Bajiazi Police continued to harass me despite my health condition. In the end, I had no choice but to leave home and go into hiding while I was still recuperating.

The following is a list of abuse I have suffered.

1. Standing still for long periods of time while my arms and legs were stretched wide open.

2. Being hancuffed with my arms behind my back with a 2-litre plastic bottle stuffed between my arms and back to exert additional pain. I was subjected to the torture several times a day for 20 to 40 minutes each time.

3. Force-feeding water while my nose was covered. Sometimes the police would combine this torture with the second one. Once I was in such agony that I struggled with my legs and fell off the stool.

4. Covering my head with a plastic bag to suffocate me. First they would tape my mouth and pinch my nose to suffocate me. Next they would cover my head with a plastic bag repeatedly.

5. Randomly hitting my head, chest and stomach for nearly 100 times with a rolled-up booklet. The beating would not leave traces on my body although it inflicted a lot of pain.

6. While I was handcuffed with my arms behind my back on a bench, the assailants smeared mustard below my nose, which caused third-degree burns.

7. Forcing me to sit on a Falun Gong amulet for the purpose of insulting Falun Gong and a Falun Gong practitioner's dignity.

8. Sleep deprivation for 5 days and 5 nights. In order to keep me awake, they often left the fan on behind me.

9. While I was in the hospital, I was handcuffed at night. Each day two people were sent by the government and the village women's committee.

10. While I was in the hospital getting emergency care, the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) sent three people from Yanji City who had renounced Falun Gong to subject me to brainwashing in an attempt to have me renounce Falun Gong. They were Pu Yingzi, a person surnamed Wu and an unidentified woman.

11. Three years ago when my husband was diagnosed with cancer and needed money for medical treatment, the local authorities confiscated my bank certificate of 22,500 yuan1 and 350 yuan in cash.

It was the police chief, Wang Ka and Wang Tai that performed the majority of the tortures while I was imprisoned in the Bajiazi Police Station.

The organizations that were involved in the persecution against me:
The 610 Office in Yanbian
The Public Security Bureau in Yanbian
The State Security Team in Yanbian
Helong Public Security Bureau
Helong State Security Team
Bajiazi Police Station
