In February 2011, Mr. Qi Yueming, Mr. Yu Yungang, and Mr. Liu Chuangjiang were persecuted to death in Jiamusi Prison, all within 15 days. Since then, prison officials have changed their tactics to make things appear better from the outside, but the persecution still continues.
They no longer force the practitioners' families to defame Falun Gong during their visits and have begun to allow the families to bring in food and other supplies, but they tightly control the prison since they know that news of practitioners being persecuted to death will be exposed on the Internet very quickly. All prison guards' telephones are now monitored. Each practitioner is constantly monitored by one or more designated inmates. Prison officials often search practitioners' beds or their workshops without any notice and thoroughly go through all of their belongings.
Mr. Sun Ren from Jiamusi City is currently imprisoned in the second division of the prison. At around 2:00 p.m. on June 29th, Jiamusi 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) and Yilan County 610 Office agents went to the home of his brother, Mr. Sun Fu, in Zhushan Village, Hongkeli Township, Yilan County, and arrested him. Mr. Sun Fu's family went to the Jiamusi Police Department to ask about his whereabouts and requested to visit him, but they were told that Mr. Sun was going to be sentenced to one and a half years of forced labour and that the police department was no longer handling his case. The Jiamusi Forced Labour Committee told his family that they would have to ask the Jiamusi 610 Office about him. Mr. Sun Fu is now being held in the Jiamusi Detention Centre, and his family's crops in the field are untended.
On the next day of Mr. Sun Fu's arrest, around 11:40 a.m., Jiamusi Prison officials searched Mr. Sun Ren's room and his workshop. They discovered and confiscated his MP3 player. He was thrown into a solitary cell at about 1:00 p.m. At around 5:00 p.m., he was put in handcuffs and shackles and taken away by a car. Around 9:00 p.m., he was brought back and put into the solitary cell.
It was reported that Mr. Sun Ren was suspected of leaking information about the practitioners who were persecuted to death to his brother, since he had written to him. Zhou Yongkang, a member of Politburo Standing Committee, issued an order to investigate the case immediately. The deputy governor of Heilongjiang Province and the officials of 610 Office came to the prison in person to take Mr. Sun away to interrogate him.
During the next seven days, officials from the Jiamusi Security Bureau interrogated Mr. Sun Ren every day. They tried to force him to tell them where the MP3 player came from and how information on the three practitioners that were persecuted to death was so quickly published on the Internet, but Mr. Sun did not say anything. Mr. Sun Ren was released from solitary confinement on July 14th, after 15 days.
The prison guards at the gate and some of the guards working in Mr. Sun Ren's division were punished with demerits.
