Over the past ten years of persecution by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), many Falun Gong practitioners have suffered from mental disorders and physical disabilities after they were forcibly administered nerve-damaging drugs. The administration of these drugs is widely practised in the forced labour camps, detention centres, prisons, and hospitals affiliated with prisons. The following is a sampling of such cases that happened in Fujian Province.
1. On January 6th, 2004, a practitioner from Fujian wrote a report to expose the atrocities that had happened in the Minxi Prison, “When I was held in the Fourth Workshop of the prison's plastics factory, I was deprived of sleep for 48 hours. Chen Weimin, chief of the workshop, deceived me into taking some drugs that cause mental damage. I fell into a deep coma and my heart stopped as a result. When I became conscious, an inmate was so startled that he ran away in unspeakable astonishment because he thought that I was dead. When I got up, I found a wound cut into my chest at area of the heart. The prison guard sent someone to watch me in secret to report on my condition. My heart was subsequently often in acute pain and my mind was unclear for some time.”
2. Ms. Wang Chaoyu, in her forties, was from Jianyang, Nanping City. She was sentenced to a seven-year prison term for explaining the facts about Falun Gong to people. Ms. Wang was held in the Fifteenth Group of the new prison section at the Women's Prison of Fujian Province.
One day, the prison guards played a video slandering Falun Gong and forced practitioners to watch it. Ms. Wang refused to watch, and cried out “Falun Gong is good!” For this she was brutally beaten. Wang Chaoyu, an inmate who shared the room with Ms. Wang, cruelly beat and kicked her, following the orders of Lin Baozhu, deputy chief of the Fifteenth Group. Wang Chaoyu forcefully stepped all over Ms. Wang with her heels, and stuffed Ms. Wang's mouth with dirty socks while her hands were cuffed behind her back. When she slept at night, they fastened her hands to the bed to prevent her from making any movement. She was tortured as such for several days but she did not yield to the prison guards. The prison guards then stretched Ms. Wang's arms behind her and cuffed her hands to two beds. They taped her mouth with adhesive tape. Ms. Wang tried to move herself to break from the confinement, but she could not do it because she was so tightly bound by the prison guards and inmates under the orders of Chen Zhaodi, chief of the prison. Afterwards, Lin Baozhu directed the inmates to inject her with nerve-damaging drugs. Ms. Chen suffered from a mental disorder as a result.
To shirk her responsibility, Lin Baozhu created rumours about Ms. Wang being a lunatic due to her practising Falun Gong.
3. Mr. Zheng Wenxiu, from Minhou City, was arrested on the day of the Moon Festival in 2007. He went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution for which he was cruelly tortured. During his detention in the Rujiang Forced Labour Camp, he was confined in their hospital and was administered with nerve-damaging drugs despite the fact that he was extremely emaciated.
Prior to August 6th, 2006, Mr. Zheng had been arrested and held in the Minhou Detention Centre. When he went on a hunger strike to protest his arrest, the prison doctors savagely force-fed him by inserting a tube through his nostril. Ke Zebiao, a doctor from the detention centre hospital, used drug injections as a torture method. The prison guards have used this method on practitioners many times. They selected the largest syringe and filled the tube with the drug. They injected the practitioners' upper and lower arms very rapidly. Their arms swelled immediately and the drug dripped from the needle when the syringe was plucked away. After the injection, the victim was unable to stretch their arms for several days as they were extremely swollen and in intense pain. The victim also suffered from fever and muscle aches. After the injection, Mr. Zheng became emaciated. He was dehydrated and in critical condition.
4. Ms. Zhong Donglan, a practitioner from Wuping County, Longyan City, had drug powder mixed into her food during her detention in the Women's Labour Camp of Fujian Province. As a result, her teeth became loose, and her mind was mentally unclear and weak. When she suffered from a mental disorder, the labour camp sent her to a mental hospital to intensify her persecution.
5. A female practitioner recounted with tears her grievous experience of being tortured and suffering during her two-year detention in a labour camp. When she first arrived at the labour camp, some prison guards asked her if she had any sickness before. Afterwards, they put drugs in her food, attempting to aggravate her sicknesses, and claimed that the drugs would help to reduce her pain. But on the contrary, the drugs were to intensify the pain. When she refused to take them, they force-administered them or put the drugs in her food and forced her to eat it.
The Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) policy of using nerve-damaging drugs on Falun Gong practitioners is in line with its policy of “destroying [Falun Gong practitioners] physically.” As a result of the long-term drug injections, the practitioners have suffered from nerve necrosis which include symptoms of numbness, swelling, paralysis, loose teeth, watery eyes, poor eyesight, and coldness over the entire body even in warm conditions.
The practitioner was finally from the prison after holding hunger strikes. After she went home, she continued with her Falun Gong exercises and soon recovered.
