On the afternoon of October 7th, Ms. Zhang Jinghua, a retired physician, was intimidated and chased by two people for speaking with people about Falun Gong in the Binhe Community, Laixi City, Qingdao. Ms. Zhang ran to the fourth floor of a building in the Binhe Community. It was alleged that Ms. Zhang fell from the top floor while trying to avoid being seized.
Ms. Zhang's family received a phone call from the hospital. When they got to the hospital, she was at death's door. At a little past 9:00 p.m. that night, she passed away. Her family couldn't believe this sudden and horrible turn of events. Before Ms. Zhang left home, she had taken a piece of frozen meat out of the refrigerator to thaw on the countertop for dinner. She had also planned to see her younger daughter, who was hospitalized, the next day. In an instant, a once healthy Ms. Zhang was gone.
According to an eyewitness, Ms. Zhang's pursuers nonchalantly called the police after they saw that Ms. Zhang had fallen. When the police arrived, they first took the pursuers away. It's been alleged that her pursuers were plainclothes officers.
The following is the eyewitness's account of what happened.
Ms. Zhang was running and two people were chasing her. It wasn't dark at the time and many vendors and passersby witnessed the chase. Ms. Zhang shouted to the people following her, “Don't run after me!” They kept running after her and even started to curse at her. Ms. Zhang ran up to the fourth floor of a building in the Binhe community. Her pursuers followed to the top floor.
Ms. Zhang was a retired physician from Niuxibu Hospital in Laixi City. She had had many illnesses prior to practising Falun Gong. Her daughter, who had just graduated from college, suffered from a mental breakdown. She almost collapsed and lost the will to live. After practising Falun Gong, she was free of illness in a short time. She became good-tempered and was kind to others.
After the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started the persecution of Falun Gong in 1999, Ms. Zhang was detained many times and sent to forced labour camps twice.
Ms. Zhang's family are trying to sue the two individuals who drove Ms. Zhang to her death and bring them to justice on her behalf.
