Falun Gong Practitioner Ms. Yang Wenjie Tortured and Kept in Solitary Confinement at Jinan Women's Prison

Shandong Province Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Yang Wenjie was imprisoned in the Jinan Women's Prison, Shandong Province in April 2011.

Guards Xue Yanqin and Xu Yumei ordered the inmates to continuously beat Ms. Yang Wenjie just because Ms. Yang refused to give up her belief in Falun Gong and refused to wear the prison's badge and uniform.

Later Xue Yanqin locked Ms. Yang Wenjie in a small cell and tortured her for 15 days. After being let out of the cell, the next day Ms. Yang was again locked in the small cell for another 15 days. Ms. Yang has been repeatedly locked in the small cell and tortured. As a result of this non-stop brutal torture, Ms. Yang has suffered tremendously both physically and mentally. She is only in her 40s, but her hair has turned grey.

The small cell was installed with a soundproofing system. From outside of the small cell, no one can hear any sound of the practitioners being beaten or the practitioners' screams. However, people inside the small cell can clearly hear noise from outside. At that time, the temperature was over 39 degrees Celsius in Jinan, so it was extremely hot and suffocating in the small cell. Ms. Yang and her fellow practitioners have been locked and brutally tortured there.

The on-duty inmates of the "Special Training Team" are picked and trained by guards Xue Yanqin, Xu Yumei, Hu Xiuli and others. Their job is specifically to beat the practitioners.

Zhaoyuan City Police Department and local 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) arrested, detained, and tortured Ms. Yang many times. She was detained in the Shandong Province No. 2 Women's Forced Labour Camp located in Wang Village, Zibo City. Because she refused to be “transformed,” [forcibly renounce Falun Gong] she was brutally tortured. In 2005, at the end of her term, she still hadn't been "transformed," so the 610 Office sent her directly to a local brainwashing centre. The head of the centre Sun Qiquan ordered several thugs to beat her. They used clubs, ropes, belts, and leather shoes. Ms. Yang's hands were cuffed behind her back and then she was suspended in the air. They also hired a drunk to beat her. After this beating she was unable to get out of bed for several days and couldn't move. In order to force her to stop cultivation, they deprived her of food and water for five days. She was detained at the brainwashing centre for several months, but remained steadfast. They illegally sentenced her to forced labour for two years. She was detained in Shandong No. 2 Women's Forced Labour Camp.

Zhaoyuan City Police Department and local 610 Office arrested Ms. Yang Wenjie again in July 2010. She went on a hunger strike for over 20 days to resist the persecution. During this period, Song Shaochang and others brutally force-fed her many times. Every time this happened, Ms. Yang's agonising screams echoed throughout the facility. Since Ms. Yang would not give up her belief in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, they handcuffed her and hung her up in the air for long periods of time. They also would not let her sleep. Instead, they took everything off her bed, handcuffed her in front of her chest, and tied her to the bed. They frequently tortured her in different ways. As a result of this non-stop brutal torture, she became emaciated and people could hardly recognise her.

Zhaoyuan City Court in Shandong Province recently sentenced Ms. Yang Wenjie and six other Falun Gong practitioners to prison. Mr. Kao Fuquan was sentenced to eight years of imprisonment; Ms. Song Guihua, wife of Mr. Kao Fuquan, was sentenced to seven and a half years; Ms. Yang Lanxiang, a disabled person, was sentenced to seven and a half years; Ms. Diao Yunying was sentenced to seven years; Ms. Fang Cuirong was sentenced to four years; Ms. Yang Wenjie was sentenced to four years; and Ms. Teng Yingfen was sentenced to four years.

Ms. Yang Wenjie was sent to Jinan Women's Prison in April 2011.
