On December 1st, Weihai City practitioner Mr. Liu Shengzhu went to Wendeng City to visit his mother-in-law, who was hospitalised at the time. He was reported while speaking with people about Falun Gong. He was arrested by two officers from the Zhangjiachan Police Station on his way home. He is being held at the Wendeng Detention Centre.
Mr. Liu's wife was worried after learning the news of her husband's detention. The next day, she went to the police station to deliver a change of clothes to Mr. Liu, and she requested to see him. Officer Sui asked her to write some statements before seeing her husband. Mrs. Liu refused. It was a long time before officer Sui finally told her that Mr. Liu was being held by the Wendeng Domestic Security Team.
Mrs. Liu went to the Wendeng Domestic Security Team. A male officer asked her to sign some forms before sending in the clothes, but he did not tell her what the forms were for. One was a search warrant, and the other one was a detention form. The officer wanted to detain Mrs. Liu, and go to her home and ransack it. Mrs. Liu refused to sign the forms and left the office. Two female officers approached her and grabbed her arms in an attempt to keep her from leaving. Mrs. Liu still refused to sign the forms. The officers did not allow her to send in the clothes or to see Mr. Liu, and they threatened, “We will ransack your home even you don't sign.”
Mrs. Liu returned home and found that her home had been ransacked by officers from the Wendeng Domestic Security Team and the Xihebei Village Committee personnel. They had pried open the door and ransacked her home while she was away.
Mr. Liu began practising Falun Gong in 1998. Not long after, his stomach problem and frostbite disappeared without any medical treatment. He has not taken any medications since he began practising. He is healthy both physically and mentally, and he is full of energy. He is regarded as an ethical person in his workplace and among his neighbours. However, he has been arrested and detained many times simply for practising Falun Gong.
In December 2001, Mr. Liu was taken to the Weihai Detention Centre by officers from the Gao District Domestic Security Team. That evening, officers from the Tiancun Police Station entered Mr. Liu's home with a passkey and ransacked it while no one was there. They confiscated Falun Gong books. The officers later went to Mrs. Liu's workplace and arrested her. Mrs. Liu was held at the Weihai Detention Centre for six days and released after having 3,000 yuan1 extorted from her family. Mr. Liu was held for one month and released after having 3,000 yuan extorted. Their family was also threatened.
At 6:00 a.m. on June 25th, 2002, a group of officers from the Tiancun Police Station arrested Mr. Liu and his wife, and took them to the Gao District Police Sub-Bureau. Mrs. Liu was released that day. Mr. Liu was taken to the Wangcun Brainwashing Centre and later sentenced to two years of forced labour. The Xihebei Village Committee personnel instructed Mrs. Liu to go to the Gao District Sub-Bureau in order to receive the 3,000 yuan which was previously paid for Mr. Liu's release. The officer asked Mrs. Liu to sign on a form before receiving the money. Mrs. Liu signed but found that it was a trick. The form she signed was the forced labour agreement for Mr. Liu.
While Mr. Liu was detained, the Gao District 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) head Yin Zhaocai often went to Mrs. Liu's workplace to harass her. The officers and the Xihebei Village Committee personnel even gained access into her home from a neighbour's window and ransacked it.
During the National Congress and the Political Consultative Conference in 2003, officers from the Tiancun Police Station and Bi Jianguo, a Xihebei Village Committee member, arrested Mrs. Liu while she was away from home. Mrs. Liu was held at the Wangcun Brainwashing Centre for one and a half months.
Mr. Liu and his wife only wish to maintain a healthy body and learn to become morally upright people through practising Falun Gong. However, they were repeatedly persecuted, for which their family has suffered tremendously.
