Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Dong Guangdong from Tianjin is in critical condition, after developing symptoms of severe illnesses as a result of long-term physical abuse and torture in Binhai Prison (formerly Gangbei Prison). He suffers from poor eyesight and is no longer able to see things clearly in close proximity. He also limps as a result of the injuries inflicted on his legs. The inside of his mouth has been festering and swollen for a long time, and his teeth have fallen out. He frequently vomits and can't eat normally, and he lost 7 pounds in one month. He is emaciated and weak.
Binhai Prison is responsible for the recent death of practitioners Mr. Zhu Wenhua and Mr. Li Xiwang, who died as a result of severe physical abuse and torture they had been subjected to at the prison. Mr. Ren Dongsheng has suffered a mental collapse and Mr. Zhou Xiangyang is in critical condition as a result of the persecution in this prison.
Mr. Dong was arrested by local police on the evening of March 31st, 2005. Ninghe County Court officials later sentenced him to seven and a half years in prison. His term will expire at the end of September 2012.
Mr. Dong was first held in Liyuantou Prison in Tianjin, where he was forced to do intensive labour for more than ten hours a day and was often beaten. He was also forced to read materials slandering Falun Gong every day. If he refused to comply, he was placed in solitary confinement.
On June 30th, 2008, prior to the Beijing Olympics Games, Mr. Dong was transferred to Ward No.5 of Gangbei Prison (now called Binhai Prison) in Tianjin. Due to being subjected to physical abuse, mistreatment and mental torment in the prison, he is now emaciated, weak, and in critical condition.
