The activity started at 10:00 a.m. with practitioners holding banners in front of the Chinese Embassy that read, “Commemorating the 13th Anniversary of the April 25th Appeal,” “13 Years of Peaceful Resistance Against the Persecution,” and “Falun Dafa is Good.” Practitioners also read statements that clarified the truth about the appeal 13 years ago in China, and called for the end to the persecution.
Thirteen years ago, on April 25th, 1999, approximately ten thousand Falun Gong practitioners went to the State Council Appeals Office in Beijing, on Fuyou Street near Zhongnanhai (the central government compound), to appeal for a lifting of newly-implemented restrictions on the practice of Falun Gong, and to call for the release of 45 practitioners who had been unjustly arrested in the nearby city of Tianjin. At 9:00 p.m. that day, when the practitioners learned that the Tianjin practitioners had been released, they left quietly. The April 25th appeal exhibited Falun Gong practitioners' peacefulness and rationality. However, three months later, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), headed by Jiang Zemin, launched a nationwide brutal persecution campaign against Falun Gong. In the past 13 years of persecution, countless practitioners in China have been arrested, tortured, and forced to leave their homes, and more than three thousand have been killed. An independent investigation has confirmed that the regime has also been systematically harvesting organs from living Falun Gong practitioners. In contrast to the brutal persecution in China, practitioners worldwide continue to conduct peaceful appeals, explain the facts, and call for support to end the persecution. Falun Gong has spread to more than 100 countries around the world, and has received awards and proclamations from all levels of governments.
At the end of the activity, the practitioners submitted a letter to the Chinese Embassy.
