January 10th, 2012 should have been the day that Falun Gong practitioner Zhou Jiangang was reunited with his family after ten years in prison. However, instead of releasing him, the Wuhan local government continued to hold him in an undisclosed location.
Zhou Jiangang lived on Zhongshan Road, Wuchang City. After he began practising Falun Gong, he not only benefited physically and mentally, but his broken family regained harmony. Since the persecution began in 1999, he has been arrested and detained numerous times. He was sentenced to ten years in prison in 2002. Brutal beatings at Qinduankou Prison paralysed him from the neck down. In order to conceal his condition, the Wuhan City 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) and prison authorities held him at an undisclosed location after his prison sentence terminated. They also threatened his family not to tell other Falun Gong practitioners about his situation.
Throughout the ten years of imprisonment, Zhou Jiangang suffered inhuman treatment. He almost lost his life. On April 25th, 2006, he was forced to face the wall in handcuffs and shackles. Guards Xiao Weihua and Qin Lin ordered criminal inmates to hit Mr. Zhou with a heavy object from behind, causing compound fracture of his 6th and 7th cervical vertebra; he passed out immediately. After he was sent to hospital, the guards watched him 24 hours a day and attempted to conceal information about his condition. The prison authorities deceived his family into signing a document stating, “Zhou Jiangang attempted to commit suicide” in exchange for his release for medical treatment. As soon as his family signed the paper, the prison authorities immediately withdrew their plan, and transferred Mr. Zhou to the Hongshan Prison Hospital. They completely deprived his family of visiting rights. Later, Mr. Zhou was transferred back to Qinduankou Prison. No other inmates can get near him. It has been said that his legs have been tied together.
