Mr. Gao Zeng of Rural Hebei Province Imprisoned and Tortured

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Gao Zeng has been arrested and sentenced to a more than six-month term at the Handan Forced Labour Camp. Prison officials are denying visitation.

Mr. Gao is the basic bread earner of his family. Thus, his entire family is experiencing great hardship. His parents are in deep grief and filled with indignation, but have nowhere to turn for justice. His wife is also suffering greatly, but still taking care of their three children, the oldest being six years old, and the youngest still being breastfed. Upon seeing their yard looking unkempt and the suffering of the children, their friends, family, and fellow villagers are lending a helping hand. Everyone is viewing the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) with disdain for what they have done to this family.

April 16th, 2012 was another family visitation day at the prison. Even though prison officials had advised the family not to visit Mr. Gao, out of concern for his wellbeing, they nonetheless made a trip to the prison. They had been told that he had been tortured with electric batons. Early in the morning, his father, wife, and three children arrived at the prison entrance. Despite the family's pleas, prison officials refused family visitation and rejected what the family had brought for him. The prison officials claimed that since Mr. Gao Zeng had refused to be "transformed" [forcibly renounce Falun Gong] “wasn't cooperating,” and was a "political prisoner," family visits were denied. They were also told it would be easier for him if he had been imprisoned for murder.

Arrest and Imprisonment without any charges

After Mr. Gao stepped onto the cultivation path of Falun Gong, he lived by the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, and became a person with high morals. He was healthy both physically and mentally, and displayed a warm personality. He was known as a hard worker. He didn't display any of the bad habits of today's young people. He also looked much younger than his age. He had been working as a remodelling contractor and farmer. His family was happy and his wife was very kind. They had three sons, and despite being poor, the family lived happily.

At around noon on September 2nd, 2011, officers from the Gongyiequ Police Station and Chengan County Police Bureau, with Yang Hongbin in charge, broke into Mr. Gao’s home just as he returned home. They arrested him for no apparent reason. The police later ransacked his home twice. They confiscated leaflets exposing the persecution of Falun Gong, CDs, and other belongings. His wife and children were devastated and the oldest child hid in a cabinet.

Mr. Gao’s family approached everyone possible in trying to have him released. Officers from the Chengan County Police Bureau sentenced Mr. Gao to an eighteen-month prison term without notifying the family on October 9th. He is being held at the Handan Forced Labour Camp, No. 1 Brigade.

Torturing a Good Person

Mr. Gao Zeng refused to give up his belief and therefore was shocked with an electric baton by officer Huo Xuebin on the evening of March 6th, 2012. There were eight people present at the time. Afterwards, the police warned Mr. Gao not to tell anyone about the torture. Afraid of being exposed, the police have forbidden his family from visiting on family visitation days.

For the past 13 years, Handan Forced Labour Camp has been known for persecuting male Falun Gong practitioners in Hebei Province. The guards use many torture and brainwashing methods on practitioners. Several practitioners are known to have been severely injured, disabled, and even killed. Even now, there are practitioners on hunger strike to protest the persecution. Guard Yang Hongbin is directly responsible for the persecution of Mr. Gao Zeng and his family. It has been publicised that Yang Hongbin of the Chengan Police Bureau is one of the chief perpetrators in the persecution of Falun Gong. When he was assistant director of the Dongbao Township Police Station, many practitioners were arrested and beaten. He extorted large amounts of money from practitioners, and took practitioners to forced labour camps.

Good will be rewarded with good, while doing evil will be met with retribution. After police officer Huo Xuebin shocked Mr. Gao Zeng with electric batons, the officer suddenly fell sick and was hospitalized.

Investigation of Torturers

The World Organisation to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong (WOIPFG) has initiated the investigation of those who are involved in Mr. Gao’s persecution, and also the “special education unit” in Handan Forced Labour Camp.
