Ms. Liu Zhi from Shenyang City in Liaoning Province was arrested outside her home by six police officers on July 12th, 2011. She was taken to Liaoning Women's Prison, where she is being severely persecuted.
When Ms. Liu's family went to visit her on May 17th, 2012, they noticed that she could not move her fingers and was unable to pick up anything. Her body also kept convulsing. When Ms. Liu saw her family, she started crying. She wanted to get a tissue to wipe her nose, but could not tear the tissue herself and needed help from other prisoners.
Team leader Liu Jie, who is responsible for monitoring Ms. Liu, admitted that Ms. Liu could not use her hands properly and needed help from other prisoners to take care of her basic needs. Ms. Liu's family asked the prison authorities to release her temporarily for medical treatment, but they refused, because she refuses to give up her belief in Falun Gong. Liu Jie even said that Ms. Liu creates trouble for them because she refuses to renounce her belief.
In the summer of 2011, Ms. Liu was detained in the “Strict Control Team,” where inmates monitored and verbally abused her constantly.
Ms. Liu can no longer sit up by herself and requires assistance every day. She has been incontinent for one month and could not urinate for two days. Her body became numb. Her family is very worried about her safety.
