A massive arrest of Falun Gong practitioners took place on June 9th in Tangshan City, Hebei Province. At least twelve practitioners were arrested or harassed.
On the morning of June 9th, over twenty police officers led by Dong Guofeng (Captain of the State Security Unit in Zunhua, Tangshan) and Liu Bei (Director of the Zhaixiang Police Station) arrested Falun Gong practitioners Cao Yinxin and Cao Guoyi. Police also searched their homes.
At around 8 a.m. on June 9th, Falun Gong practitioner Liu Jinyu from Majiagou Region, Kaiping District, Tangshan City was arrested.
At around 5 a.m. on June 9th, Falun Gong practitioner Zuo Hongjun was arrested by police from Xishandao Police Station. Zuo Hongjun lives in Deyuanli neighbourhood, Lubei District. Four police officers were involved in the arrest, two of whom are known by name: director Zhu, and Zhang Derong. According to reports, a computer and other items belonging to Zuo Hongjun were confiscated and taken to Xishandao Police Station.
At around 6 a.m. on June 9th, Cao Wenming from Hebei Energy Technology College was arrested.
At around 6 a.m. on June 9th, Li Zhen was arrested by Kaiping Police Department and is currently being detained there.
At around 8:30 a.m. on June 9th, two police officers went to the home of Falun Gong practitioner Ji Guiqin’s home at Longcheng neighborhood in Donggang and arrested him.
At around 6 a.m., six to seven police officers from Shuiwuzhuang Police Station went to Liu Zhanying’s home in Shuigang neighbourhood. They arrested Liu Zhanying and confiscated her mobile phone and other personal items. Liu was taken to Shuiwuzhang Police Station. Her husband’s mobile phone was also confiscated.
At around 6:10 a.m. on June 9th, Falun Gong practitioner Xia Yaping’s home in Lubei District was surrounded by the police. Further details on this case are yet to come.
At around 7 a.m. on June 9th, Meng Xiuxin’s home in Dingfuli neighbourhood was surrounded by many police; there were many police vehicles outside. The details are still unclear.
At around 8 a.m. on June 9th, Sheng Shulan and Zhang Fengjian were arrested in the apartment they were renting. The apartment was searched. There was one person from the city's police department as well as three to four police from Luan County State Security Unit. The family was told to go to Xincheng State Security Unit in Luan County to get them back.
On June 9th, a 70-year-old female Falun Gong practitioner with the surname of Wang was arrested in Xizhan of Tangshan City while she was telling people the truth about the persecution of Falun Gong.
At 9 a.m. on June 9th, Falun Gong practitioner Bai Yanshan was arrested by police from the Wenbei Police Station while on his way to work. His wife was also arrested, though she does not practise Falun Gong. Police confiscated a computer and their car, as well as other items. They are currently being detained in Wenhualu Police Station, with their car parked inside.
