Daqing Police Arrest Practitioners and Confiscate Personal Belongings to Prevent Them from Installing a Satellite Dish to Receive NTD TV

Daqing Domestic Security Division officer Feng Haibo and officers from the Donghu Police Department broke into the home of Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhang Zenghai in Chengfengzhuang No.8 District on the afternoon of August 7th, 2012. They ransacked his home and confiscated Mr. Zhang's and his wife's life savings, together with the money that the couple's son and daughter had saved for them to buy an apartment, a total of more than 60,000 yuan¹. These perpetrators also took away a bankbook, bank card, salary card, a computer, Falun Gong books, a mobile phone, a satellite dish and other personal belongings. Among the confiscated items were a bankbook, a gas card and other belongings of Mr. Zhang's relative. The police suddenly came to their home, intending to block the installation of a satellite dish to receive New Tang Dynasty (NTD) Television, a New York-based independent Chinese television.

On the morning of August 7th, Mr. Zhang Zenghai asked two friends, Falun Gong practitioners Mr. Jin Miaoqing and Mr. Jiang Derong, to help his son install a satellite dish to receive NTD. One hour later, Feng Haibo from the Daqing Domestic Security Division and officers from the Donghu Police Department suddenly came to his home. They arrested Mr. Zhang and his two friends, and confiscated the satellite dish. They also seized keys from Mr. Zhang and Mr. Jin, and proceeded to ransack their homes. They confiscated the above mentioned personal belongings, and arrested Mr. Zhang's wife and two other female Falun Gong practitioners who happened to be in Mr. Zhang's home. The police extorted 10,000 yuan from a female practitioner and Mr. Jiang's mother before releasing Mr. Jiang and others.

Mr. Zhang suffered from a heart attack, and the police had to release him, but not before the police extorted 2,000 yuan from Mr. Zhang's son. However, Mr. Jin is still being held in Ranghulu District Detention Centre.
