  What Made the Deepest Impression on You?When I saw that latticed dungeon-like cell I knew that Falun Gong practitioners were being abused tortured there. Whoever is unlucky to land down there is open to willful, brutal abuse at the hands of Chinese authorities, without any protection. I was shocked at the readiness of the Chinese police to commit violence. I was somewhat clear that, because of our nationality, we would have certain recourse. But I was also aware of the risks, because the Chinese authorities have for the past 2-1/2 years demonstrated their incalculable and unscrupulous behavior for all the world to see. In retrospect, I shudder to think of the possibilities what could have happened to us had we not been Westerners and the whole world would not have soon found out about our arrest.

  Ater ten hours of detention, I felt tired and weary of witnessing the policemen’s constant efforts to ridicule us, submit us to interrogations and repeatedly take pictures of us. When my phone rang, I eagerly took it out of underneath my clothes, tired of having to hide it, eager to hear my French fellow practitioners on the line. That’s when six of them threw themselves at me because I was resisting giving them my portable, my last link to the outside world. A policeman took advantage of the scene and tried to force his hands into my genitals. (Following the advice of a fellow practitioner, I was later able to memorize the number of the policeman who had assaulted me: 013133).

  This time the third police grabbed my head from behind by the side and took a hard grip of my hair and pulled upwards once again trying to have my picture taken. I once again managed without violence to turn to the side, out of their grip, so that they couldn’t take any picture. They tried twice in this way before they let go of me again. They complained and threatened me. The third and last time that they assaulted me they did as they had done the second time only this time a fourth police took a chokehold around my throat. They again tried to bend and lock my arms behind my back, they pulled my head and hair plus that the fourth police tried to take a chokehold and press me down towards the bed to take the photo. I managed to turn awry forward and to the side and protect my face from the camera. They failed in taking any pictures of me and gave up in the end.

He insisted it was surveillance cameras that the police had at Tiananmen Square. When the film producer repeated her questions about how a surveillance camera could shoot such good close-ups, the vice consul couldn’t hold himself any more and shouted, ”Such technical questions you can ask the police! … You can ask SECURITAS!   When the last speech was being read out, the Chinese embassy began blaring out loud music trying to drown out the press conference. This caused amazement and indignation amongst the local residents and people working in the area. One resident complained to the police officer on duty outside the embassy that what the embassy was doing was illegal and infringing his human rights in his own country.

The Embassy personnel then pressured the Market Officer to demand the arrest of all Chinese people handing out flyers and have them deported, but they found out that those handing out flyers were actually Taiwanese.
