Ph.D. Student Develops Mental Disorder after Serving Two Terms in Forced Labour Camp
2010-01-16Mr. Huang Hongqi, a quiet student in a Ph.D. programme, was twice sent to a forced labour camp, where he suffered five years of brutal mistreatment that caused him to have a mental breakdown. In December, 1999 police sentenced him to two and a half years of forced labour. He was held in the Dalian Correction Centre. The Dalian Institute of Technology stripped him of his Ph.D. candidacy. Mr. Huang refused to renounce his belief in Falun Gong and was beaten, shocked, and subjected to the "tiger bench" torture. He suffered additional consequences because of the torture he endured in the camp--he lost hearing when his eardrum was ruptured and his nose was damaged during brutal force-feeding. -
Wuzhong District Court in Suzhou City Sentences Ms. Shi Jianping
2010-01-16Despite defence attorney Zhang Chuanli's convincing arguments, Wuzhong District Court officials in Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province handed Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Shi Jianping a four-year prison sentence on December 16th, 2009. Mr. Shen Jiandong was finally able to see his wife Ms. Shi Jianping, whom he hadn't seen for more than eight months. Her hair had turned grey, and her now thin face had a yellowish complexion. -
Police Attempt to Suffocate Practitioners with Toxic Fumes
2010-01-16In June 2007, Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Sheng Jinling and Ms. Qian Fengling were reported and arrested by the police while distributing Falun Gong leaflets exposing the persecution in a village in Hebei Province. In the police station, Ms. Sheng Jinling and Ms. Qian Fengling were handcuffed behind the back of a long chair and the handcuffs were very tight and cut into the flesh. This tall policeman closed all the doors and windows in the room and sprayed a strong irritant, an unknown liquid, into the room from a small window. Ms. Sheng Jinling and Ms. Qian Fengling gasped for air and coughed violently. Tears streamed out of their eyes and they could not open them. Their throats burned from the smoke they inhaled and it lasted about ten to twenty minutes. -
Police of Laiyuan County, Hebei Province: "This is Called 'Strategy' not 'Lying'"
2010-01-15On December 29th, 2009, the village director received a phone call from the police station directing him to inform Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zuo Zewen to immediately go to the police department to pick up his family tricycle. When Mr. Zuo and his wife went to the police department, their tricycle was not there. A policeman offered Mr. Zuo a ride to the police station to pick up the tricycle. But when Mr. Zuo got in the car, Zhang Fang drove him directly to the Gaoyang Forced Labour Camp. When the village director asked the domestic security division officer why the police had lied to him and used him to lie to others, and inquired of how he would be able to explain this to all of the villagers, Wei said, "This is not 'lying', it is 'strategy." -
Mr. Liu Wen Arrested Delivering Milk, His Family in Difficulty
2010-01-15Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Liu Wen and his wife raise diary cows to support their daughter's college education. On September 19th, 2009, Mr. Liu took a bus to deliver milk and was stopped by a government employee. The official identified him as a Falun Gong practitioner after locating his name on a blacklist and took him to the police station. Public Security Bureau officials ransacked Mr. Liu's home when no one was in. Mr. Liu had previously been sentenced to three years of forced labour in 2000. At the Baoding Labour Camp he was subjected to violent brainwashing. The guards tied him to the "dead person's bed" for 17 days, shocked him with several electric batons at once, hitting him in the armpits and in the genitals. -
Older Practitioner Ms. He Yigui Dies as Result of the Persecution in Sichuan Province
2010-01-15On March 3rd, 2009, Ms. He, 67, went to pick up her grandson from school, and she gave a few students some information about Falun Gong. Some of these students reported her to the police, they arrested her and detained her in the Chengdu City Detention Centre. Only several days later, Ms. He suffered from high blood pressure and was rushed to the Qingyang District Community Hospital. In December 2009, the Wuhou District Court notified her family that they planned to put Ms. He on trial. Her family reported her health condition to the court, and she had to be hospitalised. Ms. He was then in critical condition and she died on January 7th, 2010. -
Ms. Zhao Yan from Beijing Detained in Huhehot Women's Forced Labour Camp, Inner Mongolia
2010-01-15Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhao Yan is being persecuted in Huhehot Women's Forced Labour Camp in Inner Mongolia. She has been detained in a small cell for a long period of time and her prison term has been increased. Ms. Zhao was arrested and then detained for two years for distributing leaflets exposing the persecution and telling people the facts about Falun Gong around the time of the Beijing Olympic Games. Ms. Zhao Yan steadfastly maintains that Falun Gong is good and does not co-operate with the various forms of persecution in the forced labour camp; she refused to wear the prison uniform, to participate the so-called " forced labour re-education" and refuses to write the guarantee statement to renounce Falun Gong. -
Ms. Jiang Zongping Tortured in the Neijiang Brainwashing Centre in Sichuan Province
2010-01-14On August 26th, 2009, Jiang Zongping, a Falun Gong practitioner from Neijiang, Sichuan Province, was sent to the Neijiang Brainwashing Centre by local Chinese Communist Party (CCP) personnel. Ms. Jiang recalled the torture she endured in the brainwashing centre: "I was detained in the brainwashing centre for more than forty days. During those days, I was forced to watch the videos that they produced to condemn our teacher and Falun Gong. They employed all kinds of lies and dirty words to defame Falun Gong and our teacher. I was forbidden to make a single movement." -
Mr. Wu Zonglun Recounts Years of Persecution in Xianning City, Hubei Province
2010-01-14Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Wu Zonglun has been arrested, detained, fined, forced to do hard labour and had his home ransacked, as a result of the persecution of Falun Gong begun by Jiang Zemin, [former leader of China and instigator of the persecution] in July 1999. He recounts the persecution he experienced: "On December 19th, 2003, I was sentenced to two years of forced labour and I was taken to Shayang Forced Labour Camp, where I was tortured and forced to undergo intense brainwashing. I was summoned for a "talk," which in reality was intense brainwashing. The plan was to bring victims into their traps, and force them to renounce Falun Gong by the end of the day. The contents of the "talk" mainly included lies made up by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to frame Falun Gong." -
Mr. Wang Zhihua from Linzhou City, Henan Province Severely Tortured
2010-01-14Police came to the Linzhou Detention Centre on December 7th, 2009. They took Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Wang Zhihua to a disguised police van and drove to the city police headquarters basement entrance. At 1:00 p.m., policeman Qin Zhide forced Mr. Wang to stand on two thick wooden boards, and handcuffed one of his hands to a metal pipe above his head before removing the boards he was standing on. Mr. Wang's body was now suspended from his wrist, and his toes barely touched the ground. A few minutes later his hand went completely numb. He was suspended until 4:00 p.m. when the police released him. -
Six Practitioners from Gaomi City, Shandong Province, Sentenced to Long Prison Terms
2010-01-14Recently, six Falun Gong practitioners were sentenced by Gaomi City Court to lengthy prison terms. Mr. Guo Hongfa was sentenced to seven years, Mr. Xue Jiagui to three and a half years, Ms. Zhang Guizhi to four years, Ms. Mao Yongfang to six years, and Ms. Mao Yongchun and Ms. Ren Yuying were both sentenced to four and a half years, with Ms. Mao's sentence to be served outside of prison. Before the trial, the practitioners were held at the Gaomi City Detention Centre for approximately nine months, where they were persecuted. They were deprived of sleep for several days on end. Some of the practitioners were tortured in a small isolated cell. -
Ten Years of a Life Lived in Fear
2010-01-13The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has persecuted Ms. Yang Jine over the past decade for her belief. The police have ransacked her home six times and harassed her constantly. She once lived in exile for five months. They also forced her family to pay them 9,500 yuan. Her child would shiver at the sight of police and police vehicles, and would occasionally stay away from home, dreading another home ransacking. -
Elderly Ms. Zou Ruihuan Dies Under Persecution - Her Family of Nine Is Brutally Mistreated
2010-01-13Following persistent police harassment, Ms. Zou Ruihuan, 77, passed away on October 26th, unable to recover from the constant pressure of the persecution. Her family of nine have firmly persisted in practising Falun Gong and police have arrested all of them many times. Family members have been sent to forced labour camp, or imprisoned for several years. Ms. Zou's husband was detained twice and tortured, and died in March 2007. The family has also had several tens of thousands of yuan extorted from them by the authorities. -
Ms. Qing Xiuying Develops Mental Disorders Due to Torture at the Beijing Women's Forced Labour Camp
2010-01-13On September 11th, 2009, police went to Ms. Qing Xiuying's office and seized her. She was later sentenced to two years at the Beijing Women's Forced Labour Camp. Guards have tortured her to try to get her to give up Falun Gong, subjecting her to sleep deprivation, solitary confinement, and denying her use of the toilet. The last time her family went to visit her, she was very skinny and had dropped more than ten kilograms of weight. Ms. Qing told them, "The forced labour camp tortured me to try to force me to 'transform.' [forcibly renounce Falun Gong." She now often laughs and shouts uncontrollably. -
Ms. Zhang Xiuchun, 60, Dies as a Result of Persecution at Qiqihar Forced Labour Camp
2010-01-13On August 4th, 2006, Ms. Zhang Xiuchun was seized from her home by police because she practised Falun Gong. Ms. Zhang was sentenced to two years of forced labour at the Qiqihar Forced Labour Camp. She was not allowed to use the toilet and was left sitting in her own excrement because she refused to give up her belief. The long-term, high-pressure forced labour led to diabetes, loss of bladder control, and bad eyesight. Her health deteriorated, and she was treated in the hospital for a month. She remained in a coma during the hospitalisation. Ms. Zhang died on December 26th, 2009.
