France is a nation known for upholding freedom and justice. However, why were more than seventy Falun Gong practitioners, including two Swedes, detained during the Chinese leader’s visit to France? Only because they wore yellow clothing or scarves imprinted with the words “Falun Gong”. -

"There is no time to lose in bringing these criminals to justice. The despicable crimes perpetrated by Jiang Zemin and his accomplices have been exposed in broad daylight. The morality and conscience of the human race will not allow these crimes to continue unchecked. More and more people in the international community have stood up to voice their concerns over the horrendous human rights violations in this four-year-old campaign of persecution, which has been happening with unimaginable severity on an unprecedented scale in human history. We hope that Chinese officials on all levels could also wake up to the cruel reality and start doing whatever is in their powers to try to put an end to the evil persecution as quickly as possible." -
Italy: Falun Gong Practitioners Handed in Letters to the French Embassy and Consulates in Italy
2004-02-23On February 6th, Italian Falun Gong practitioners went to the French Embassy in Rome to hand in a letter. The French Embassy is situated in the famous ‘Fantasia Edifice’, one of the most magnificent buildings in Rome. Followed by the instruction of the police, we showed a banner opposite the building in the Piazza. The President of the famous human rights group ‘HANDS OFF CAIN’ Mr. Delia and the Vice President Ms. Elizabeth also joined our activities. -
A Swedish Student Wrote to the French Minister of Justice
2004-02-09"When did the yellow colour become illegal in France? Falun Gong practitioners wear yellow clothing on many occasions, in particular on the occasion of making peaceful appeals against the persecution. It is not illegal to do so. The French Falun Dafa Association is a legally registered organisation in France and has been supported by government agents and human rights organisations." -
A Swedish Practitioner Wrote to the President of France to Call for the Upholding of Falun Gong Practitioners' Human Rights
2004-02-08"30 Falun Gong practitioners were detained (some were even handcuffed) in Paris during January 24-27 2004. Some were handing out leaflets to inform about the persecution of Falun Gong in China. Some just quietly watched the Chinese parade, and because they wore yellow scarves or clothes with the words “Falun Gong” or “Falun Dafa” they were treated as criminals by French police. Some of them didn't even wear clothes, scarves, or badges of this kind. These actions by the French police against peaceful European citizens are not only unfair, but also against human rights and democracy." -

2004-02-07"We love France because she has been a country, which prides itself on its independence of thought and will and does not easily bow to the demands of others. However, this incident clearly shows the very integrity and self-will of the French nation have been violated and compromised. We are deeply concerned that the Paris police, at the behest of your government and due to pressure from the Chinese government, has actively helped in the persecution of Falun Gong." -

2004-01-29"After coming back to the UK, I still feel shock and regret about what happened in Paris. I am a UK citizen and come from a democratic country, expecting France to be free and democratic as well. What I encountered was a nightmare that I think the French authority should apologise to me for their behaviour and prevent it from ever happening again." -
