• Guards in Masanjia Forced Labour Camp Attack Practitioners Who Protest the Persecution

  Guard Yu Jiang from Masanjia Forced Labour Camp in Shenyang City, about 37 years old, is now the team lead of the No. 3 Team of the No. 1 Jail. He is recognized as one of the most evil, most ruthless “hatchet men” in Masanjia. In order to force Falun Gong practitioners to give up their beliefs, he personally implemented torture methods, including hanging practitioners up in an “airplane style” position, tying them on a death bed, the “stretching” torture, shocking them with 800,000-volt electric batons, smoking their noses with burning newspaper, depriving them of sleep for many days, etc. He has also unscrupulously extorted money from detainees and their families in amounts ranging from several thousand to tens of thousands of yuan, and then claimed the money was his.

• Recent Abuse in Hebei Province Women's Forced Labour Camp

  Guards abused Falun Gong practitioners last month in the Third Ward of the Hebei Province Women's Forced Labour Camp. The Third Ward is the major money-making unit in the prison. Most of the imprisoned are Falun Gong practitioners. The rest are those who appealed to the central government about local issues. The guards use beating and electric shocks to force all of the imprisoned to work as slave labourers. Their work is demanding. They start at 7:30 a.m., have lunch break at noon, and work again from 1:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Occasionally, they have to work one to two hours overtime.

• Cruel Conditions in the Shaanxi Province Women's Forced Labour Camp

  In the past, most of the detainees at the Shaanxi Province Women's Forced Labour Camp were drug addicts. As of July 1999, however, many Falun Gong practitioners, who had committed no crime, were incarcerated there. There is a saying in the labour camp, “[a detainee] works harder than a cow, gets up earlier than a rooster, eats worse than a pig, and sleeps less than a watchdog.” Most of the detainees had injuries upon release. In the early days, the labour camp produced rubber mats, and many detainees' arm muscles were damaged after extended exposure to high temperatures in the work area. When they got up in the morning, many of them had difficulty putting on their clothes due to severely swollen wrists. Beating often happens at the labour camp.

• Forced Labour and Mistreatment in Division No. 2 of the Hohhot Women's Labour Camp

  Hohhot Women's Forced Labour Camp's Division No.2 forces Falun Gong practitioners and other inmates to do hard labour. They work ten hours a day to seal polywoven bags for Xinde Plastic Co., Ltd. Beginning on March 16th, 2011, they got up to begin work at 6:30 a.m. and worked non-stop until 8:00 p.m. This schedule lasted until May 29th, when they switched to getting up at 6:00 a.m. and worked until 6:00 p.m. The high decibel noise in the workshop, together with the overload of hard labour and carrying heavy items, completely exhausts them.

• Atrocities at the Wanjia Forced Labour Camp in Harbin

  In 2001, Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Ma Bingjuan was detained at Wanjia Forced Labour Camp in Harbin. She both witnessed and experienced the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) shockingly brutal persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. Ma Bingyuan stated that at that time, 800 detained Falun Gong practitioners had scabies on their bodies as a result of the persecution conditions. Prison doctors would take off practitioners' clothes and use a dull knife to scrap the scabies sores. That tragic condition and the pain from it is hard to describe using words.

  Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Sheng Lianying, 56, was detained numerous times since the Communist regime began to persecute Falun Gong. She was detained twice at the Masanjia Labour Camp. She was tortured in many ways including force-feeding with suffocation, forcibly given nerve-damaging drugs, Death Bed, “Big hang-up”, force-feeding with hot pepper or mustard powder, force-feeding dirty water, mouth stuffed with faeces, shocking with electric batons and more. As a result of the torture, she is physically weak with atrophied legs and deformed teeth.

• Falun Gong Practitioners Tortured in Heizuizi Labour Camp in Changchun City

  Practitioner Ms. Bai Yun, 61, was taken to the labour camp on February 25th, 2011. Liu Ying and four other guards tortured her on February 28th. They beat her, swore at her, slapped her in the face, kicked her in the abdomen, and electrically shocked her naked body. As a result, Ms. Bai had severe pain in her abdomen and her back was severely injured. She also had a lump on her forehead the size of an egg. After Ms. Bai screamed in pain, guards sealed her mouth with tape and tied her onto the so-called "death bed". She was put on the death bed again on March 9th, and her limbs were stretched out. Because of this torture, Ms. Bai had severe pain in her abdomen and back and could not stand up straight.

• The Persecution of Practitioners in the No. 10 Ward of Liaoning Province Women's Prison

  The inmates and practitioners in the No. 3 Team at Liaoning Province Women's Prison were forced to make clothes. They were divided into two groups, one to prepare the fabric, the other to operate the sewing machines. Everyone was assigned an unreasonable workload. For example, the one operating the sewing machine had to work 620 minutes per day. If she was unable to, she was verbally abused and punished, such as being shocked with an electric baton, kicked, or slapped. Every day the inmates in the No.10 Ward started to line up at 6:40 a.m. for the workshop. They would finish, at the earliest, at 7:00 pm. They sometimes worked overtime, until 9:00 p.m. Everyone was so exhausted when they returned to their cells that some had difficulty climbing the stairs. Some were not allowed to eat dinner or go to the toilet if they didn't finish the daily quota.

  To prevent Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Jin Zhengshu from speaking or doing the Falun Gong exercises, her mouth was taped shut for more than a week. Guards tied her on the "death bed" at night. She staged a hunger strike to protest. To further torture her, the labour camp doctor left force-feeding tubes fed through her nose and into her stomach in place all day and night. Guard Wang Zhufeng tied her legs to the legs of the bed, and kicked out Ms. Jin’s only remaining four teeth. As they kicked her, the blood gushed over her entire chest; an appalling but all too common scene in China's forced labour camps and prisons today.

  The Masanjia Forced Labour Camp in Shenyang brainwashes Falun Gong practitioners with force and torture, and brutally forces practitioners to give up their belief. Some practitioners have been tortured to death or disabled, or have lost sensation in their limbs. The torture methods the labour camp uses include the “stretching bed” (practitioners' arms are handcuffed to two metal beds and then the beds are pushed apart), “splitting legs” (practitioners are forcibly pushed down to the floor with their arms fully apart and handcuffed to the rails of a metal bed, then their legs are pulled in opposite directions), and the “big hang-up” (practitioners are hung from heating radiators with their two arms pulled far apart or with one arm handcuffed to the radiator).

  Before the 2008 Beijing Olympics, several thousand Falun Gong practitioners were arrested in Beijing and taken into forced labour re-education in Masanjia Labour Camp. We were told, “If you want to get red flags (which can reduce the labour re-education term), you must spend money.” The guards claimed that labour re-education meant punishment, and that it was too time consuming to reason with practitioners, so they go straight to physical violence.   On January 4th, 2011, in Heizuizi Forced Labour Camp, team chief Ding cruelly beat Ms. Zhang Li because she refused to give up or renounce Falun Gong. To make the practitioners suffer more, Ding made many regulations. For instance, practitioners must report to and ask permission from the chief guards if they want to go to the toilet. In many cases they were not given permission and had to use a bucket in their room as a toilet. Their room could be very cold in the winter because the radiator was broken, but they were forced to keep their door open during the daytime.

  Yin Guijuan, guard at the Tumuji Forced Labour Camp, frequently beats Falun Gong practitioners with electric batons, handcuffs them and hangs them up for long periods of time. She has instigated drug-addict inmates to beat practitioners. She has openly and directly told drug addicts and prostitute inmates that their sentences can be reduced if they beat practitioners. The harder they beat them, the more their sentences can be reduced.
