Thirty-seven-year-old Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Li Jinke was a doctor at Tanghe County Hospital in Nanyang City, Henan Province. Dr. Li started to practise Falun Gong in 1994 and experienced great benefits to his mind and body. After that, he was always willing to help others and did his work carefully and conscientiously. After Jiang Zemin's scoundrel group started to persecute Falun Gong on July 20, 1999, Dr. Li Jinke spoke openly about the facts of the persecution against Falun Gong. For this noble conduct he was unlawfully detained by the policemen of the Political Security Branch of the Tanghe County Police Department and was sentenced to two years of labour "re-education"* in Xuchang Labour Camp of Henan Province.

After Dr. Li Jinke was released in October of 2001, he went to Tanghe County Police Department to ask for his book, "Zhuan Falun" [the main text of Falun Dafa], which was confiscated by the police at the time of his arrest. Instead of returning his property to him, the police abducted Dr. Li and locked him up in a brainwashing class. In order to resist this persecution, he went on a hunger strike. He became extremely weak. The police worried about taking responsibility for Dr. Li's death and released him. In September of 2002, several policemen from the Political Security Branch of Tanghe County Police Department paid a visit to the Tanghe County Hospital where Dr. Li worked, and without providing any justification, they tried to force Dr. Li Jinke to have his fingerprints taken. Dr. Li did not agree to this and firmly refused their unreasonable demand. Then the police illegally arrested him again, first taking him to the police station and then back to the brainwashing class. Within a short time, they sent him to Xuchang Labour Camp.

In Xuchang Labour Camp, Dr. Li Jinke suffered many excruciating kinds torture and torment that would make most people tremble with fear. Once, in order to stand up for his righteous belief, Dr. Li Jinke shouted, "Falun Dafa is good!" The team leader of the third unit, Jia Zhigang, attacked him, shoving a high-voltage electric baton into Dr. Li's mouth. His mouth was bleeding and swollen for many days, making it difficult to eat. Since Dr. Li Jinke never yielded to the scoundrel guards and never denounced Falun Dafa, he was always beaten with a rubber stick, punched and kicked. On several occasions, he was tied up with ropes and struck with high-voltage electric batons for unimaginable lengths of time. He was often hung up with handcuffs for a long time. The policemen coerced two drug addict prisoners to abuse and harass Dr. Li, watch his every move, and force him to work from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Many times they pushed Dr. Li to work overtime until 5:00 o'clock the next morning. If he hesitated to do the work even a little bit, those two prisoners firmly pinched his thighs. They forced him to work day and night and did not allow him to sleep. In order to resist this wicked persecution, Dr. Li Jinke went on a one-month hunger strike to protest the Xuchang Labour Camp's unlawful and immoral abuse. The scoundrel guards, the captain of the third unit Shi Baolong, and team leader Jia Zhigang force-fed Dr. Li Jinke many times. They inserted a tube into Dr. Li's nostril, and they intentionally manipulated the tube to increase his suffering, wantonly injuring his nasal cavity and stomach. After these force-feeding episodes, they would hang Dr. Li up with handcuffs and prevent him from sleeping.

At present, Dr. Li Jinke has been tortured into a semi-conscious state, and he is on the brink of mental collapse. In order to save this young doctor from dying in Xuchang Labour Camp, a dark den of evil, we appeal to all the kind-hearted people in the world to give assistance.

Note: Labour "re-education" (forced labour) is one method commonly employed to persecute Falun Gong practitioners and others who have not committed any crimes and thus cannot be punished under the legal system. In China, government officials at various levels can simply order that someone be sent to a forced labour camp for up to two years at a time without due process. Forced Labour is outside of almost any legal control. It does not require any open trial procedure and does not allow any defence by lawyers.
