Ms. Sun Qiuxiang, 53, is a farmer's wife from Huying Town, Shandong Province. She previously suffered from several diseases, including high blood pressure and chronic pain of the back, legs, and head. Taking medication and injections did not help her health condition. In 1997 she began to practise Falun Gong. Within a month, all her diseases disappeared. She became a healthy and able housewife.

On July 20, 1999, Jiang and his followers began to spread lies, slander the founder of Falun Gong, and cruelly persecute Falun Gong practitioners. Fang Shiping, the Party Secretary of Huying Town, broke into Ms. Sun Qiuxiang's house and asked whether she still practised Falun Gong. Ms. Sun replied "yes". Fang Shiping then called the police and took her to the town government family compound. At night, Fang Shiping, the head of "610 Office," (1) Lin Xiaoming, and town government official Li Gunagqin forced Ms. Sun to squat on the concrete floor with both of her legs stretched to the limit and her hands touching her toes. They covered her eyes, then held her to the floor and took turns beating her with rubber clubs for nearly one hour. Ms. Sun's legs were swollen so badly that she could not wear her shoes, and her entire body was black and blue. They also tried to force Ms. Sun to curse Teacher Li. She closed her mouth tightly and did not cooperate. They then used forceps to open her mouth, and this caused her to speak unclearly for 40 days. After she was beaten into unconsciousness, they carried her to another room. After she regained consciousness, they asked her whether she would continue with her practice. Ms. Sun remained steadfast in her belief in the practice of Falun Gong. Then, with Fang Shiping in the lead, over ten policemen surrounded her, stripped her, beat her with rubber batons, pinched her cheeks, used leather shoes to smash her toes, and burned her feet arches with cigarettes. Ms. Sun passed out again from this torture. After six days of detention, policemen extorted 1,900 Yuan (2) and then let her family members take her home. After she got home, she suffered from high fever of over 40 degrees centigrade (104oF). For two months, her entire body was red and swollen; she lost control of her bowels and bladder, had to stay in bed, and could not take care of her daily chores.

On December 20, 2000, Ms. Sun Qiuxiang's daughter, who was also a Falun Gong practitioner, was arrested by Beijing policemen because she went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. They took the only 100 Yuan she had, and sent her to Huying Police Station. In the late afternoon, policemen took Ms. Sun to the police station, and beat and tortured her the entire night. During this cold winter season, policemen dragged Ms. Sun and her daughter outdoors, handcuffed them to the trees, removed their coats, and forced them to stand on the ice for four hours every night. Her daughter was pregnant at the time. She could not endure the torture and passed out. The head of the "610 Office," Li Xiaoming, beat her face and legs after she lost consciousness. Later they took Ms. Sun's daughter to the hospital for an intravenous infusion. The next day, when they saw that she was doing OK, they again brutally beat her. They were even so cruel to a pregnant woman. Ms. Sun and her daughter were detained for 11 days. The policemen still forced them to endure the frigid weather without protective clothing for four hours every night. Finally, they arrested Ms. Sun's son-in-law and his parents, who were not practitioners, and subjected them to differing degrees of torture. They also beat Ms. Sun's husband, and forced him to stand in the cold weather for two hours. Right before they were released, Party Secretary Li and policemen beat up Ms. Sun and her daughter again. Policemen extorted from her family members 20,000 Yuan without providing a receipt. They threatened them and their family members before they let Ms. Sun and her daughter go home.

In 2002, Ms. Sun Qiuxiang was reported to police because she was steadfast in her belief and distributed Dafa materials. She was forced to leave her home to avoid being illegally arrested there. She was nonetheless arrested and taken to a Detention Centre because she distributed Dafa truth-clarifying materials. Zhao Chunli confiscated 108 Yuan from Ms. Sun, and illegally detained her for one month. Policemen also extorted 350 Yuan from her family members. Later, Ms. Sun was sent to the Wangchun Forced Labor Camp, but she was rejected because of her physical condition. She was then transferred to the Shouguang City "610 Office" brainwashing section for three days. She was extremely weak, and policemen were afraid of being held responsible for her possible death, so they allowed her family members to take her home three days later.

During these three years, Ms. Sun Qiuxiang's home has been illegally searched three times, and the police have extorted 30,000 Yuan without providing receipts. Police also illegally harassed her at her home three times.
