After The Truth About Falun Dafa Is Broadcast over a Loudspeaker in the Chongqing Police Department, Practitioner Zhang Qiyong is Tortured to Extract a "Confession"

One day in mid May 2004, around 4:00am, the truth about Falun Dafa was broadcast over a loudspeaker into the detention centre at the Qijiang County Police Department complex, Chongqing. The broadcast lasted over 20 minutes and awakened the guards to the realization that all their bad deeds would be recorded and would have to be paid for. Zhang Qiyong, a Falun Dafa practitioner who was detained there and on the verge of death due to persecution, was questioned while being tortured and forced to "confess".

It is reported that police suspected there might have been some guards who assisted in broadcasting the truth about Falun Dafa. Dormitories in the complex of the police department were ransacked and guards were interrogated one by one. An elderly female resident there was detained for a few days.

The Detention Centre is located in the Qijiang County Police Department complex. There are twenty wards in the Centre. Each ward is monitored twenty-four hours a day and the doors are kept closed all year long. Many Falun Dafa practitioners have been or are being jailed in this detention centre, enduring physical and mental torture.

In the small hours that day, the clear and pleasant music of Falun Dafa known as "Pudu" could suddenly be heard accompanying the truth-broadcast in the detention centre. People in the wards shouted with astonishment: "It's a broadcast of Falun Dafa!"

At the same time, the guards grew nervous. They ran around shouting as they tried to find out where the broadcast came from. However, the loudspeaker couldn't be found immediately, and the broadcast had already played for over twenty minutes when it was finally located.

Guards later questioned and tortured Zhang Qiyong to extort a confession despite the fact that he was on the verge of death already. He was forced to go without sleep for six days. To hide their persecution of Zhang, the perpetrators spread rumours that Zhang became psychotic after practising Falun Gong and committed suicide by jumping off the building. They interrogated Zhang's family and kept threatening Zhang's step-mother, Wang Zaifen. They constantly pressured Zhang's family to sign a notice of Zhang's detention and a warrant for his arrest.

Zhang Qiyong was 29-years-of-age and a graduate of Sichuan University. He was an employee of the Reimbursement Department, Qijiang County Branch, China Life Insurance Ltd. Around 5:00pm on May 1st, 2004, Zhang was kidnapped by a group of plainclothes police around Huhui Garden in Yubei District, Chongqing, and then detained illegally at the Detention Centre of Qijiang County. To protest the illegal persecution, Zhang went on hunger strike. However, he was tortured brutally and made to endure the "Dead Person's Bed" (1) and inhuman force-feeding. His hands and feet were bound into excruciatingly painful positions, his mouth became inflamed and ulcerated, his legs were blue and swollen, and he became severely dehydrated and deformed prior to his death.

It's reported that another 29-year-old female Falun Dafa practitioner, Wang Jiqing, was illegally forced to go to Maojiashan Female Forced Labour Camp. She was forcibly injected with unknown drugs by inmates coerced to do so by the guards. She went into shock on the spot and passed away on September 23rd, 2002.

(1)The four limbs of the practitioner are stretched out and tied to the four corners of an icy-cold metal bed. The practitioner cannot move at all. Neither is he allowed to get up to eat, drink, or go to the toilet. This treatment would last from several hours up to more than a dozen days. This type of cruel torture causes severe damage to the practitioner both mentally and physically.
