Mr. Shang Baolin was a farmer in Chengguan Town, Pingdu City, Shandong Province. He began practising Falun Dafa in late October of 1998. It seemed that he had become a completely different person and his family life also became harmonious. Having witnessed the big changes in her husband, Ms. Shang's wife also started practising Falun Gong.
On July 20, 1999, Jiang's regime began persecuting Falun Gong. Led by a village official police broke into Shang Baolin's home, and ransacked his house looking for Dafa books. Since then, his family has never had a peaceful day. Whenever "Sensitive Days" approached (national holidays and the anniversary of the day when the persecution started), the policemen would come to his house to harass, threaten, arrest, and extort money from them. The perpetrators have extorted as much as 26,000 yuan (1) from his family.
Once, the policemen abducted Mr. Shang's wife and his child on the street, and took them to the police station. The child, who was less than 10 years old, was so scared that she trembled uncontrollably. The police tried to force Shang Baolin to give them money. When he refused, they threatened and intimidated him constantly. As a result, Shang Baolin became very frightened, under tremendous stress and lost his appetite. Later, his wife walked out of the police station with the courage and wisdom from Teacher Li's teachings. As she had to remain away from home in order to avoid arrest, the policemen came to their house to harass him regularly, once every two or three days. They were trying to force Mr. Shang to tell them about his wife's whereabouts. Living under such terror, Shang Baolin lost weight every day.
In May 2002, the vicious policemen captured his wife in another town where she was living a homeless life. His wife was brutally tortured to the point that she could not hold down food or liquids. Then she was sent to a Detention Centre, where she was persecuted until she was very close to death, spitting and urinating blood. At such a critical time, Hou Yonghua, and a few other thugs came to Mr. Shang's home again, trying to extort 10,000 yuan. Shang Baolin refused to pay them money.
On the eighth day after his wife returned home, the local policemen came to his home again, trying to abduct his wife and take her to a brainwashing programme held by the "6-10 Office." His wife resisted and so she had to leave home once again to avoid arrest, living from place to place.
At midnight on September 28, 2002, over ten policemen broke into Shang Baolin's home and threatened him, trying to force him to tell them the whereabouts of his wife. They told him that if he refused, they would arrest him and bring him to the police station to beat him. Shang Baolin was so frightened that his heart began racing and his face turned pale. Finally, under severe pressure he told the police his wife's location at her parents' house. After the police left, Shang Baolin phoned his wife and warned her to hide. His wife noticed that his voice had changed and he had no energy to speak. On October 10, 2002, Shang Baolin collapsed suddenly and died. At age 39, he left this world with a frightened expression on his face. Now, his wife and his ten-year-old daughter are living a lonely and impoverished life. Another happy family has been destroyed by Jiang and his followers.
