In June 2000, police officers illegally arrested Ms. Hu Guilian, a female practitioner who is about 60 years old, while she was chatting with a fellow practitioner at her home. She was later transferred to the female Falun Gong Detainee Group in Dalian City's Forced Labour Camp. During the last one-and-a-half years, she has been tortured and forced to perform high-intensity manual labour. The guards used all kinds of cruel methods to try to force practitioners to give up the practice of Falun Dafa. They attempted to destroy practitioners' determination with mental and physical torture.
Ms. Hu Guilian has been on a hunger strike for over two months to protest the relentless persecution. Ignoring her poor health, guards continued torturing her by force-feeding her through tubes, causing considerable damage to her health in the process. Her life is in extreme danger. The labour camp officials still did not allow her family members to see her and even extorted 1,000 Yuan [500 Yuan is the average monthly income in urban areas of China] from her family for so-called "medical expenses."
