Details About the Persecution of Fang Xiaoping from Sichuan Province

Fang Xiaoping from Shisun Town, Guang'an City, Sichuan Province used to have a bad temper and neglected his job. However, he gradually changed his ways after he started to practise Falun Gong in 1997. His family became harmonious and even the neighbours noticed the big changes in him. Although he had changed his character in such a positive way through practising Falun Gong, he was persecuted and sent to a forced labour camp run by the Chinese Communist Party.

The family of Fang Xiaoping has known no peace ever since Jiang Zemin's gang started to suppress Falun Gong. Officers from the Shisun local police station and officials from Baiyun Township and the Residential Quarters have searched his home and confiscated his property many times. Once, when the family was not at home, police officers from the Shisun Police Station broke in, smashed some boxes and the video player and confiscated Falun Gong books and tapes. Fang Xiaoping and his wife went to see Xiong Dayuan, the Residential Quarter Secretary, and asked for an explanation as to why their home had been ransacked. Xiong Dayuan threatened him and said, "Jiang Zemin himself gave the order to suppress Falun Gong. Nobody will speak for you no matter where you go. If you persist in practising Falun Gong, you will be sentenced to prison."

One day in July 2002, officials from Shisun Town and police officers from the local Shisun police station broke into Fang Xiaoping's home after 10 p.m., smashing all the doors. Fang Xiaoping and his wife hid in the attic. The authorities smashed the door to the attic and seven or eight people forced their way in and dragged Fang Xiaoping's wife downstairs. They handcuffed her to the table, and then they tried to arrest Fang Xiaoping, who had retreated to the roof of the building. It was rainy and windy that night and he was soon soaking wet.

The next day at noon, Xu Bin, Deputy Director of the Guang'an City Police Department, (a woman in her forties who has been involved in the persecution of Falun Gong since July of 1999) gathered a group of people and attempted to force Fang Xiaoping to come down. Fang Xiaoping stayed on the roof of the building for more than ten hours. His child tried to take him some food but was not allowed to go up. They did not allow Fang Xiaoping to have something to eat or drink. They eventually tricked Fang Xiaoping into coming down and arrested him. A lot of people witnessed what was happening and many said: "They are good people. Please release them. They have old parents and two kids. Don't arrest them." But the police simply wouldn't listen. They arrested Fang Xiaoping and sentenced him to one and half years in a forced labour camp. Fang Xiaoping had been living at his grandfather's home. The grandfather was shocked and frightened when he witnessed his grandson's arrest. He eventually died from grief, and he was not allowed to see Fang for one last time before his death.
