On October 13th and 14th, 2006, Scottish Falun Gong practitioners came to Purse during an SNP congress to expose the Chinese Communist Party's trade in organs harvested from living Falun Gong practitioners. A practitioner liased with the co-ordinator of the congress beforehand, explained the reasons for collecting signatures condemning illegal organ harvesting. Suggestions were made by the co-ordinator for the best time to distribute leaflets during the meeting period.
People support Falun Gong by signing the petition
On October 13th, several practitioners went to Purse, hung up a banner reading "Stop organ harvesting in Chinese concentration camps", and distributed leaflets beside the main entrance to the congress hall. Many congress participants said they learnt about the issue from BBC news a few weeks ago. However, when they gfound out that those organs were not only from criminals, but also from Falun Gong practitioners, they were again shocked.
Afterwards, practitioners went to Purse city centre to carry on the activity. In the city centre, practitioners distributed leaflets and asked passers-by to sign the petition (these petitions will be sent to the World Health Organisation).
During the afternoon, a woman told a practitioner that members of the SNP were coming back from lunch, so, a group of practitioners went back to the congress venue and again talked to the people as they returned to the hall. Many members signed the petition condemning the persecution. A woman said the CCP made the lives of people worthless. Other people who thought the standard of Chinese human rights had improved, when they learned about the CCP harvesting organs they were all shocked.
The next day, practitioners hung up banners and posters and distributed different leaflets and newspapers. The security man, who spoke with practitioners the previous day, was very friendly and signed the petition. He also gave permission to practitioners to hand out leaflets close to the main entrance.
A Scottish MP suggested practitioners make contact with her office after she signed the petition. If possible, she would like to arrange a seminar about human right abuses by the CCP. During the seminar, Falun Gong practitioners had the opportunity to tell their unheard stories to Scottish politicians. Also, some people blessed practitioners, saying, "I hope you can collect more supportive signatures". Two people said, "Well done". When practitioners told people about CCP's evil history, they also got DVDs and copies of the "Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party" or "Nine Ping" which expose the evil essence of the CCP. Finally, they would like to bring a copy of the petition to hang up in the church.
In the afternoon, a University professor asked for all types of material and he said that he was teaching about human right in China. He had been refused by the Chinese Consulate to provide some Chinese human rights records. Practitioners told him that they can go to his class, to give a lesson to the students by narrating their own experiences about the persecution in China. This teacher was much impressed and gave his contact phone number to the practitioners.
Also, a lady, who was a member of the SNP, asked for Chinese and English material to give her son-in-law who is Chinese. Another two participants of the SNP meetings said that they had a good impression of Falun Gong because they had met practitioners in Australia on their travels. A member of the SNP who was in charge of event communications hoped practitioners would keep in contact with him. A couple who were very interested in Falun Gong, but unfortunately, there was no exercise site in their area. Finally, when practitioners were just about to leave, the president of the SNP, Mr Alex Salmond came out, practitioners passed him a leaflet and a DVD on "Nine Ping". He took the material and thanked the practitioners.
