During the holiday break between Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve, Hungarian Falun Dafa practitioners held activities in Budapest’s Blaha Lujza Square to raise awareness about the persecution of Falun Gong.

Practitioners gathered at the square around midday. They erected information boards and banners, handed out fliers and collected petition signatures.

Practitioners took turns in demonstrating the five sets of Falun Gong exercises, which contrasted well with the scenes of persecution depcited on the information boards.

Many passers-by and people standing at the nearby bus stop came over to watch the practitioners perform the movements.

One man was so amazed at the peacefulness of the sitting meditation that he approached and asked how long it takes for one to reach that level of tranquillity.

The practitioner answered it depends on the individual and how rapidly he or she progresses and invited the man to attend the weekly practice site.

“Wow, if one can really reach that level of peace and tranquillity [through practicing Falun Gong], I’ll have to try it myself,” the man said as he left.

Many people stopped and carefully read the information boards. Many of them were deeply moved and disturbed by the Chinese Communist Party’s persecution of Dafa.

One elderly lady said, “This persecution is so awful! You should round up all the perpetrators for this persecution and execute them.”

Some people began expressing their dissatisfaction with the communist regime, giving reference to the former Soviet Union, which terrorised the Hungarian population during the 1950s.

Another person said, “This persecution is so awful. What can I do to help?”

Practitioners collected petition signatures and found most people gladly gave their support.

There were some cases of interference, where people tried to interfere with the activity, but some kind-hearted people criticised those interfering and asked them to leave.
