A European Union Commissioner stated that China has to establish a sound human rights environment.
On January 15th, 2007, Deutsche Welle (Radio Germany) broadcast an interview with Benita Ferrero-Waldner, the European Union Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy.
In the interview, Mrs. Ferrero-Waldner said, “China has to establish a suitable environment and atmosphere for human rights.” She added, “This includes many important steps. For example, China has to approve and implement the international conventions for civil and political rights. They also have to release all those imprisoned because of the Tiananmen Square incident. China should close all of its labour education camps.”
