My name is Li Fengzhen and I'm a Falun Gong practitioner from Fushun City, Liaoning Province. My eight-year-old daughter and I began to practise Falun Gong in October 1995, and we cultivated following the principles of "Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance." There were dramatic changes in our minds and bodies, and I recovered from heart disease, a gastric ulcer and dizziness. I thank Dafa so much for giving me life a second time.
In order to let more people benefit from Falun Gong, another practitioner and I established a practice site near our homes. More than forty people studied the Falun Dafa teachings and practised the exercises together there. Everyone benefited a lot from practising Falun Gong, and we felt the miraculous effects on our fitness levels, general health and spiritual purity.
In 1999, however, Jiang Zemin used his authority to launch the persecution against Falun Gong. Falun Gong practitioners have suffered physically and mentally from the persecution. The following are my experiences during the persecution.
On July 20th, 1999 the police arrested Falun Gong assistants everywhere. After the practitioners heard the news we went to city hall on the morning of July 21st to speak out for justice for Falun Gong and request the release of the Falun Gong assistants. As a result we were abducted by the police and dragged to a police car. We were taken to a nearby school and interrogated for a day. We weren't allowed to walk, eat or use the rest room. We weren't released until 11 p.m.
At 11:30 p.m. on July 22nd, 1999, local police officers Li Jianghong and Jiang Han ransacked my home. They beat on my door and woke up several of my neighbours. They didn't show any legal documents when they broke into my home and forcibly confiscated my Falun Dafa books. Though I refused to give them permission to search, they rummaged through chests and boxes looking for Dafa books and materials, and finally confiscated an instructional Falun Gong exercise videotape.
The local 610 Office1 listed me as an "important person." Afterwards I was repeatedly harassed and threatened by the local Political and Legal Committee and police. My daughter and I were deeply wounded emotionally. The police instructor Gao Qingxiang and officer Li Jianghong forcibly and confiscated my identity card and permanent address registration seven years ago, and have not returned them since.
On New Year's Day 2001 every family was preparing to celebrate the holiday. The police, however, had no problem arresting me during the celebration. Police instructor Gao Qingxiang and some other officers pounded on my door. My daughter was so scared that she fell into my arms. Her body was trembling and she held me tightly and cried, "Mum, I'm so scared!" They couldn't break the door down, so they tried in vain to open the door with a master key. Their plot to arrest me failed.
One day while I was practising the Falun Gong exercises at the end of February 2001 local police officer Li Jianghong and others were lying in wait outside my home for my daughter to come home from school. They coerced her into opening the door, and then they took us both to a police car. They abducted us and took us to the police station. The Police Chief asked me if I still practised Falun Gong. I told him that the Chinese constitution says that citizens have the freedom of belief, and that I would never give up my beliefs. They forcibly separated my daughter and I, shoved me into a police car and took me to the Fushun Forced Labour Camp. I was detained there for two years. Officer Li Jianghong brought a pile of files and a labour camp warrant. When I asked to see them, he refused.
When I got to the forced labour camp an officer threw me on a bed. He slapped me and brutally punched me in the eyes, face and head. I was so severely beaten that I almost lost my eyesight; I had an unbearable headache and a bloody nose.
Due to the cruel physical and mental torture my heart disease recurred and my blood pressure increased. The authorities at the forced labour camp sent me back to the police station. My daughter saw me and cried, "Mum, who beat you like this?" She was eleven then and I was her only support. My daughter's young soul was deeply wounded by the persecution. Later the police had a watchman follow and monitor my movements, and my freedom was restricted.
On April 7th, 2001 a female section chief of the Political and Legal Committee in Dongzhou District led several people to pound on my door every day. Later they found my daughter and coerced her into giving them information. They found out where I was working and tried to force me to "transform2" and give up my beliefs. She told me, "'Transforming' you is my sole responsibility. You must be 'transformed' by the end of the month or you'll be sent to prison." It's not wrong for me to cultivate Falun Dafa or be a good person. I will never be 'transformed'
Forced into Homelessness and Destitution
The police threatened and persecuted me repeatedly on the orders of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). My daughter and I were ruthlessly wronged. We couldn't stay at home, and my daughter and I finally were forced to become homeless and destitute. We wandered everywhere for more than six years. My daughter was in fifth grade, but she hasn't been to school since then. It was a severe blow to her when she lost the chance to go to school and I lost my job.
Falun Gong practitioners, especial those who are homeless and destitute, know how dangerous it is to rent an apartment. Communist Party members constantly check address registrations and renter's identity cards, targeting Falun Gong practitioners. After my daughter and I became homeless the authorities at the local 610 Office, the police department, and my former workplace checked all the local schools, looking my daughter. They thought that if they found my daughter, they'd find me. My daughter dared not go to school.
Arrested Ten Times in Seven Years
The authorities were following a fellow practitioner from July 2001 to 2002, so I went to a school to pick up Falun Dafa books for the practitioner, and the principal reported me. I was abducted and taken to the Jiangjun Police Station in Shuncheng District, Fushun City. Several vicious policemen there threatened me, trying to force me to tell them my name and address. They cuffed me to an iron pipe and illegally searched me, taking turns interrogating me. One officer said, "Let's drag her outside and beat her if she doesn't cooperate." The police tortured me from 8 a.m. until 11 p.m., and then they sent me to the detention centre. Because I was tortured so severely that my heart disease recurred, the detention centre refused to admit me.
On January 10th, 2002, I went to Tiananmen Square to appeal for justice for Falun Gong. When I shouted, "Falun Dafa is good," "Restore the good name of my Teacher," and, "Restore the good name of Dafa," a police officer kicked me to the ground and dragged me into a police car. In the police car he punched me in the head and knocked me flat.
After I was abducted they took me to the Resident Administrative Office in Beijing, and the evil police forcibly stripped me and searched me. I went on a hunger strike in protest. Four days later I was sent to the Fushun Rehabilitation Centre for more persecution. I was forbidden to sleep or use the toilet. If I practised Falun Gong, officers had the criminals beat me, and I was often abused and beaten by the police. Half a month later the deputy chief of the local police station drove to the rehabilitation centre with two policemen at 8 a.m., and the officers took me downstairs and dragged me to a police car (since I'd been severely tortured I was very weak and unable to walk). I was wearing only sweats and was barefooted. The police took me to the Fushun Forced Labour Camp in a hurry wanting to sentence me to three years of forced labour.
After I got out of the car the police threw me to the ground. The deputy chief beat, punched and kicked me. The pain in my head was unbearable and I lost consciousness and fell the the ground. After I woke up the deputy chief said, "Li Fengzhen, to tell you the truth, if you don't transform they'll beat you to death here. The deaths of Falun Gong practitioners from beatings are nothing, and we call them suicides." When the prison doctor examined me he found that my heart disease and high blood pressure had returned, so the forced labour camp refused to accept me.
When I was released I was extremely weak and I couldn't see clearly. My headache was unbearable and my vision was deteriorating. I had a constantly bleeding nose and coughed up blood. The CCP's police had severely physically and emotionally persecuted me.
During my seven years of persecution I was abducted ten times, I was taken to forced labour camps twice and to a detention centre once. My home was ransacked twice without any legal procedure.
In Danger of Arrest and Lethal Persecution
On September 21st, 2005 I was working at a factory. Because a fellow practitioner was so severally tortured by the officers of Fushun Police Department's First Division that he couldn't tolerate it, he informed on me and practitioner Xue Diankui. After we heard about it we hurried to leave. In the evening the police searched our residence and confiscated a picture of my daughter. They waited in ambush there for a long time, hoping to arrest us.
In 2006 the authorities from the National Security Bureau, the police department, the city and my previous workplace organised a massive search for me. I was in danger of being abducted or losing my life at anytime.
I experienced all this during the CCP's seven-year persecution of Falun Gong. There are no words to describe the physical and emotional pressure I've suffered. I'm only one of the countless Falun Gong practitioners who've been persecuted, and there are so many more still being tortured and detained in forced labour camps and prisons. Numerous innocent practitioners have been forced into homelessness and destitution to avoid persecution by the CCP. They've lost their livelihoods and families. Despite all that they still clarify the truth about Falun Gong to people. Every day Falun Gong practitioners are persecuted to death. We hope that the world's human rights organisations and the UN will investigate the persecution and collect evidence. I will gladly testify in court to the crimes that the CCP committed in persecuting Falun Gong during the past seven years.
We hope the kind-hearted people and human rights organisations of the world will help end the persecution of Falun Gong in China!
