Ms. Song Zhezi Suffers Mental Collapse from Torture in Prison, Her Daughter and Son-in-Law Sentenced to Long Prison Terms

There is a family in Changde City, Hunan Province. The mother, Ms. Song Zhezi, started practising Falun Gong in 1998. In 1999, her daughter, Ms. Yuan Donglan also started practising Falun Gong. The mother is a capable businesswoman who had a 200 square metre shop in the eastern suburb. The shop did very good business and she made good money. The daughter helped her mum to take care of the business. The whole family follows Falun Dafa principles and are good citizens. They had been living a happy life.

However, this happy family has been torn apart due to persecution by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). All three members in the family are imprisoned. The mother, Ms. Song Zhezi, was sentenced to four years in prison in 2004. Her shop, with a value of over 100,000 yuan¹ became bankrupt and her money in the bank was frozen. Ms. Song suffered a mental breakdown due to brainwashing and torture from the detention of more than three years in Hunan Province Women's Prison. Her daughter, Ms.Yuan Donglan, who is 30 years old, was forced to become destitute and homeless. On August 11th, 2007, Ms. Yuan was arrested on the street in Binzhou City. One month later, on the evening of September 11th, her husband, Mr. Liu Xiangling (also a practitioner) was surrounded and attacked by three plainclothes policemen in a hospital in Changsha City and was taken away.

Before Mr. Liu Xiangling started practising Falun Gong, he was well known in the local area because he had joined in gang fights multiple times. He was put into jail for that reason. His parents and family had no way to change him. Later, some Falun Gong practitioners spoke to him and Mr. Liu Xiangling began practising Falun Gong. Once he started practising Falun Gong, Liu Xiangling got rid of all his bad habits. He followed Falun Gong's principles of "Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance" in his daily life and became a kind person. He is totally different from before. His parents and family became so pleased and proud of him. After Ms.Yuan Donglan became homeless, Mr. Liu took the responsibility to raise and educate their child by himself and did not have any complaints.

On September 12th, policemen from Changde City took Ms.Yuan Donglan and Mr. Liu Xiangling to Wuling District Court. The policemen beat them badly. Mr. Liu Xiangling could not endure the cruel torture and was forced to confess that he installed two sets of satellite dishes for local people in Changde City. On December 6th, Wuling District Court held a trial for Ms. Yuan and Mr. Liu. The court sentenced Ms. Yuan Donglan to a lengthy prison term. They also plan to sentence Mr. Liu. Their nine-year-old son will lose the care from his parents, and will have to live with his grandparents.

A happy family has been devastated by the persecution from the Chinese Communist Party.
